LayarHijau – The romantic comedy drama My Page in the 90s (《突然的喜欢》) has captured viewers’ attention not only for its sweet and humorous storyline but also for the unique chemistry between its two lead actors, Wang Yuwen and Chen Xingxu. In an exclusive interview with Sohu Entertainment, they shared detailed insights into their journey together, from shy school friends to co-stars who complement each other both on set and off-screen.
Wang Yuwen recalled their first meeting at the Affiliated High School of Beijing Dance Academy (北舞附中) during their teenage years. “We never spoke in middle school,” she said. Although they had long been connected via QQ and WeChat, they rarely communicated, and ten years passed without meeting at any industry events. According to Wang, they hadn’t even attended the same events after graduation, leaving their interactions almost nonexistent.

My Page in the 90s became the turning point that reunited them. In the drama, Wang Yuwen plays Lin Huan’er, while Chen Xingxu portrays Gao Haiming, a “white-cut-black” CEO—innocent in appearance but cunning inside—set in 1999. Their on-screen interactions are full of humor and “opposite pair” dynamics that create strong sparks. Wang Yuwen admitted, “I feel very satisfied while acting.” Their chemistry on screen is not just the result of rehearsed acting but also shaped by understanding built from their shared past experiences.
After filming, they met again at various variety events, which Wang Yuwen described as “熟人局” (acquaintance gatherings). These meetings helped strengthen the bond that had previously been disconnected, making their professional relationship more relaxed and friendly.
Behind the scenes, Wang Yuwen described their unique dynamic. They often exchange emojis, and Chen Xingxu is known to “accompany” Wang Yuwen in her “abstract” moments. “He will stay with me,” Wang explained, adding that Chen Xingxu does not try to stop her but instead enjoys her playful behavior. Their working styles also differ: Chen Xingxu is more reserved, while Wang Yuwen is expressive, creating a unique balance on set.
Wang Yuwen also shared amusing speculations about Chen Xingxu’s past, particularly his QQ space. She imagined it being “calm” or “cool,” featuring natural scenery or simple visuals, far from the non-mainstream style popular among teenagers at the time. She described Chen Xingxu as a “slightly artistic/literary guy” but not overly melancholic. In their current interactions, when they “debate” or “tease” each other, they rely more on recent “abstract events” or emojis rather than discussing the past. This illustrates a relaxed, humorous, and understanding relationship.

From Chen Xingxu’s perspective, he expressed admiration for Wang Yuwen. Both are alumni of the Central Academy of Drama, but their campus acquaintance did not immediately make them close due to being in different classes and years. Their closeness developed during the filming of My Page in the 90s, where Chen Xingxu got to know Wang Yuwen better. He even dubbed her the “leader in abstract thinking” and praised her “very logical abstractness,” explaining that her abstract thinking is meant to make things highly enjoyable, not just random or aimless.
Their camaraderie is also evident in the stickers and emojis they frequently exchange. Chen Xingxu admitted that many of his sticker collections come from Wang Yuwen, showing the comfort and closeness they share off-screen.
When asked about potential future collaborations, Chen Xingxu expressed great enthusiasm. He praised Wang Yuwen as a highly versatile actress, capable of portraying sweet girls as well as strong, career-driven women. “She is someone who can transform very well. She can play a sweet girl, and she can also play a strong, dominant woman,” he said. He even expressed willingness to adapt to any role Wang Yuwen has not tried before, including a “strong woman, weaker man” dynamic if a suitable script appears.
The closeness and professionalism between Chen Xingxu and Wang Yuwen certainly offer a unique appeal for fans, who are eagerly anticipating their interactions both on and off-screen. Their chemistry is not only about acting but also stems from a relationship that has developed since school, enriched by professional experiences and mutual understanding.
