LayarHijauThe romantic drama My Page in 90s (突然的喜歡), starring Chen Xingxu and Wang Yuwen, aired its final episode on January 31. The finale immediately became a hot topic, delivering a bittersweet love story across time that moved viewers to tears, before culminating in an emotional reunion that confirmed a happy ending.

Warning: the following contains spoilers.

Lin Huan’er (Wang Yuwen), a modern woman trapped in a 90s-era novel, finally develops a formal romantic relationship with Gao Haiming (Chen Xingxu), a cold CEO whose heart gradually softens due to her love. However, their happiness is overshadowed by a harsh reality: Lin Huan’er realizes that her stay in the novel has a time limit, and she must return to the real world at the turn of the millennium.

Gao Haiming senses something unusual and guesses that their separation is inevitable. Instead of avoiding fate, he chooses to create the most memorable moment possible. On the millennium day, he proposes to Lin Huan’er in front of a carousel at an amusement park.

Kneeling and holding back tears, Gao Haiming confesses his love. Lin Huan’er cries and nods in acceptance. They share a passionate kiss in front of the carousel, one of the most romantic and heart-wrenching moments in the series.

After the proposal, they ride the carousel together. Gao Haiming takes pictures of Lin Huan’er’s smiling face, while she playfully shows off her engagement ring. But before the carousel completes a full rotation, Lin Huan’er suddenly vanishes and returns to the real world. Gao Haiming can only stare at the empty space, sobbing and crying out, “I love you.”

Lin Huan’er fully wakes up in the real world. Here, the painful truth becomes clear: all memories of Gao Haiming, including major events that occurred in the novel, do not exist in reality. The two are separated by different worlds and can only long for each other.

Episodes 21 to 24 also focus on Lin Huan’er’s attempts to change the tragic fate of her friend Zhu Mengmeng (Zeng Mengxue) and Zhu’s fiancé, police officer Hu Tiehan (Ma Sichao), in the novel. Originally, Hu Tiehan dies in the line of duty just before their wedding.

Lin Huan’er does everything to prevent this tragedy, even managing to avoid Hu Tiehan’s scheduled death. However, the novel demonstrates that major events are unchangeable. While helping Zhu Mengmeng try on her wedding dress, tragedy still strikes: Hu Tiehan is critically injured while on duty and ultimately dies. At this point, Lin Huan’er realizes that the novel’s events are immutable, including her own return to the real world.

Back in reality, Lin Huan’er lives with an empty feeling until she receives a package containing a model airplane. The gift rekindles all her memories of Gao Haiming, prompting her to rush to the sender’s address.

On her way, Lin Huan’er sees Zhu Mengmeng and Hu Tiehan happily walking together. This scene takes place in the real world and serves as an important clue: the timeline has shifted. Unlike the tragic ending in the novel, Hu Tiehan is alive and with Zhu Mengmeng in reality, proving that the novel’s fate no longer governs the real world.

Encouraged by this sign, Lin Huan’er finally reunites with Gao Haiming in the real world in the series’ closing scene. They embrace and kiss, confirming that their love did not remain confined to the pages of the novel but successfully transcended space and time.

The drama closes with a meaningful narration: “Because I believe, love is the only force that can fold time and space. Thank you for letting me see you again.”

Thus, My Page in 90s delivers a clear answer: although Chen Xingxu and Wang Yuwen’s romance is filled with separation and pain, it ultimately ends happily in the real world, with love prevailing over fate and altering the destiny of all characters involved.
