In The Scandal, Shin Youn Ha plays Lee So-ok, a woman who is set to become the concubine of Lady Cho’s husband, played by Son Ye Jin. Lady Cho is a woman with exceptional talents who feels she was not meant to spend her life confined to the limited role expected of women during the Joseon era. Meanwhile, Cho Won (Ji Chang Wook) is known as one of Joseon’s most accomplished lovers.
Lee So-ok becomes an important part of the romantic wager between Lady Cho and Cho Won. However, her character also has a story of her own after developing feelings for Kwon In-ho (Chani), the younger brother-in-law of An Hui-yeon (Nana).
In one scene, Lady Cho sends So-ok to meet Cho Won. So-ok asks him to teach her how to approach Kwon In-ho, and Cho Won begins giving her lessons on how to win over the man she likes, including how to express her feelings through letters.
The letter-writing lesson gradually turns into a flirtatious exchange between So-ok and Cho Won. What begins as an attempt to help So-ok approach In-ho eventually develops into an increasingly intimate interaction between the two characters.
The scene then takes a bolder turn when So-ok appears in front of Cho Won without a top. It becomes one of Shin Youn Ha’s most daring moments in The Scandal, highlighting the rookie actress’s willingness to take on a sensual scene opposite Ji Chang Wook.
So-ok is also described as an important catalyst for the unpredictable developments in The Scandal. Her presence is closely tied to the romantic wager between Lady Cho and Cho Won, giving a seemingly straightforward character a significant role in setting the story’s events in motion.
Before the series premiered, Shin Youn Ha also attracted attention in the main trailer for The Scandal. Her fresh appearance and bright smile immediately caught viewers’ attention, raising curiosity about the layered story and performance she would bring to the series.
Shin Youn Ha previously appeared in KBS2’s Oasis, where she played Lee Jung-wook, the younger sister of Lee Doo-hak. She drew attention for portraying the character’s delicate emotions against the backdrop of a turbulent period, demonstrating her acting ability before joining The Scandal.
Through Lee So-ok, Shin Youn Ha now shows a different side of her acting. Her character is not only drawn into Lady Cho and Cho Won’s wager but also becomes connected to Kwon In-ho, making So-ok one of the characters who helps push The Scandal into increasingly unpredictable territory.
