LayarHijau – A man’s sudden marriage proposal to his girlfriend during Zhao Lei’s concert at Beijing’s Bird’s Nest on September 12 sparked heated debate among Chinese netizens. The incident became a trending topic on Weibo, with a related hashtag briefly reaching No. 1 on the platform’s hot search list.
According to Xiaoxiang Morning Herald, the man was sitting in the front section of the audience when he suddenly proposed to his girlfriend. The woman became emotional and stood up after accepting the proposal.

However, her standing up blocked the view of audience members behind them. Several concertgoers then shouted in unison, “Sit down!”
Before the proposal, the man had also handed out wedding candies to people sitting nearby as a way of sharing their happiness. Security staff later stepped in to stop the incident, leaving the situation momentarily awkward.
Netizens Divided Over the Incident
The incident sparked two opposing views among netizens. Some argued that people had paid high ticket prices to enjoy Zhao Lei’s performance, not to watch a private ceremony involving strangers.
From this perspective, the couple should not have disrupted other concertgoers’ view or experience, especially since they were seated near the front.
Others, however, felt that the proposal was a happy occasion that deserved congratulations. They argued that there was nothing wrong with supporting a couple celebrating a special moment, as long as their actions did not disturb other people.
The debate ultimately turned the brief proposal at Zhao Lei’s concert into one of the most widely discussed topics on Weibo.
