LayarHijau – Republican-era romance drama Overdo (这一秒过火) has remained one of the hottest topics online after Murong Qingyi and Ren Susu’s relationship reached a major turning point. Although the series debuted with a modest 5.1 rating on Douban and drew mixed reactions over its storyline, it continues to dominate Maoyan’s drama popularity rankings. At the same time, Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan’s on-screen chemistry has become one of the biggest talking points across Chinese social media.
In one of the drama’s latest episodes, Murong Qingyi and Ren Susu’s relationship finally takes a significant step forward. After Ren Susu becomes a fugitive pursued by both the police and the Huo family in connection with a murder case, Murong Qingyi offers to take the blame to protect her. In return, he asks her to spend one day with him at a mountain cabin. The time they share allows the two to clear up years of misunderstandings before Ren Susu finally takes the initiative to kiss Murong Qingyi.

The romantic scene immediately ignited discussions on Weibo. The hashtag #张凌赫王楚然从秋千吻到床上# (“Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan, from the swing kiss to the bed”) surpassed 400 million views. Meanwhile, hashtags such as #张凌赫王楚然吻戏给我看红温了# (“Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan’s kissing scene made me blush”) and #张凌赫你咬嘴唇是啥意思# (“Zhang Linghe, what did you mean by biting your lip?”) also gained traction. Clips from the drama, along with behind-the-scenes footage, quickly spread across Weibo, Douyin, Bilibili, and Xiaohongshu.

Many viewers said the scene’s biggest strength wasn’t the kiss itself, but the emotional intensity conveyed through Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan’s eye contact, facial expressions, and performances. Fans felt that years of longing, misunderstandings, and emotional restraint between Murong Qingyi and Ren Susu made the moment especially powerful. Some even admitted to replaying both the drama scene and the behind-the-scenes footage multiple times to study every interaction between the two stars.

As the discussion intensified, a number of Weibo users began linking the pair’s convincing chemistry to the filming process itself. One widely shared post claimed that Wang Churan became so immersed in portraying Ren Susu during the kissing scene that she accidentally bit Zhang Linghe’s lip. The same post also alleged that director Yi Jun chose not to stop filming and decided to keep the unexpected take because it gave the scene even greater emotional impact. Some users even described the moment as a “stroke of genius” that made the scene even more unforgettable.

The claim soon spread beyond Weibo, with articles on platforms such as Sina, Sohu, and several Taiwanese entertainment outlets echoing the discussion. At first glance, the reports appeared to present the story as verified information.
However, a closer look shows that many of those articles were written by bloggers or columnists who were simply repeating discussions from social media rather than citing official confirmation from the production team or the cast.
The behind-the-scenes footage circulating online, however, does not clearly show the alleged incident. Instead, it simply captures the kissing scene being filmed as usual before Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan are seen smiling, laughing, and acting shy once filming wraps. There is no clear footage showing Zhang Linghe’s lip being injured or bleeding, nor is there evidence that director Yi Jun deliberately kept the take because of such an incident.
To date, neither Zhang Linghe, Wang Churan, director Yi Jun, nor the production team has publicly confirmed the claims circulating online. As a result, the story that Wang Churan became so immersed in the role that she accidentally bit Zhang Linghe’s lip remains an unverified online rumor.
Regardless of whether the speculation is true, the online discussion reflects just how captivated viewers have become by Overdo’s lead couple. Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan’s chemistry has encouraged fans not only to analyze their characters’ relationship in the drama but also to scrutinize behind-the-scenes footage frame by frame. Even subtle details—such as eye contact, facial expressions, and Zhang Linghe’s lip-biting gesture in certain scenes—have become talking points, further proving that the pair’s on-screen chemistry remains one of the biggest driving forces behind Overdo’s popularity.
