LayarHijau — Zhang Linghe, known for starring opposite Tian Xiwei in Pursuit of Jade (逐玉), will guest star in the new period drama Emei (峨眉) — Mount Emei. Taiwanese actress Michelle Chen is also joining the series in a guest role. Both appear in the first trailer, which was released recently.
Zhang Linghe shows up at the very end of the trailer for about 10 seconds. Dressed in white with long hair, he sits alone under a tree playing weiqi, also known as Go. After placing a stone on the board, his character looks up toward the camera, deep in thought. The clip landed on Weibo’s hot search list.

Viewers responded with comments like “He looks like an immortal!”, “He was born to play ancient roles!”, and “When is Zhang Linghe doing another xianxia drama?” Chatter about his appearance reportedly outpaced attention on the show’s two leads, Wu Junting and Zhang Shian. Some fans joked that he carried the entire series on his own.
Zhang Linghe plays Xie Chong, an evil deity. The character looks like a serene sage but is actually calculating and scheming. Xie Chong shares a master-and-disciple bond with Xixin, the character played by Wu Junting. His screen time is concentrated in the fourth story arc. It is the first time Zhang Linghe has played a villain.
Michelle Chen plays Xie Huacun, whose identity has not yet been revealed. In the trailer, she appears with sinister white hair and fights Wu Junting and Zhang Shian. The look is a far cry from her sweet image as a high school student in the film You Are the Apple of My Eye (那些年，我们一起追的女孩) and as Xiaolongnü in The Romance of the Condor Heroes (神雕侠侣). Many viewers didn’t recognize her at first.
Emei is a CCTV production made up of six standalone mystery cases. It is directed by Xu Jizhou, who also directed The Knockout (狂飙), with a script by Yang Xia, the screenwriter behind The Untamed (陈情令). Rising young actors Wu Junting and Zhang Shian star.

The story centers on Xixin, a palace deity who lives a laid-back life on Mount Emei. His peaceful routine is upended when the head of the Qin family dies in a bizarre spontaneous combustion during a procession honoring the gods, and every clue points to Xixin as the killer. To clear his name, he teams up with Lu Wujiu (Zhang Shian), the new constable of Luomu Town. Their investigation also uncovers the secret behind a curse placed on the Qin family by the “greatest evil god under heaven.”
