In the scene, Yan An performed with intense energy and large head movements. The period wig he wore was not fastened securely and shook violently. Viewers dubbed the moment “a face steady as a mountain, a wig running away from home,” and turned it into a joke.
Most viewers treated the incident as a fun bonus while watching. They said the actor’s emotions were running high and his performance was so committed that the wig shook along with it. One joke going around: “So angry that even the wig lost its composure.”
Some viewers who follow the drama more seriously see it differently. They said a poorly fitted, cheap-looking wig can easily break immersion in serious scenes.
Tian Xiwei previously starred opposite Zhang Linghe in Pursuit of Jade (逐玉), one of the most talked-about period dramas this year. Fans had hoped to see the two paired again, but her leading man in the new drama is Yan An.
Yan An, 29, is a former Chinese member of the boy group PENTAGON under Cube Entertainment. He was known for his fair skin and delicate features. In the group, he served as both the visual and a sub-vocalist, and he was once extremely popular. After the group’s contract expired in 2023, he chose to continue his career in China.
During his time with PENTAGON, Yan An paused his activities several times because of injuries. In 2025, he revealed in a livestream that he has a benign brain tumor. He was filming Veil of Shadows (月鳞绮纪) at the time and had other work commitments, so he did not shave his head and undergo surgery until August.
