Just 139 minutes after its release, the drama topped Youku’s weekly new-user acquisition chart. The next day, it entered the platform’s annual bestseller chart.
Other records include:
- Reservations across two platforms reached 6.22 million, the highest among Youku dramas in 2026.
- Its popularity index on Douyin surpassed 300 million, and the popularity of two of its characters each exceeded 1 million.
- The first four episodes carried 37 ads from 11 brands, with Tmall as title sponsor for Double 11.
- Overseas, the drama launched simultaneously on Netflix and entered the top 10 popularity charts in Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
The drama stars Tian Xiwei and Yan An. It is adapted from the novel of the same name by Xiao Jiaren on Jinjiang Literature City. The story follows A Chou, an orphan from the lowest rung of society who is made a substitute bride in a chongxi (a marriage meant to ward off misfortune) and gets drawn into a struggle between a real and a fake heiress.
Tian Xiwei plays two characters: Wei Rao, the real heiress, who is resilient and steadfast, and Jun Dai, the fake heiress, who is spoiled and ruthless. Some viewers praised her ability to distinguish the two characters through her eyes, voice, and posture. They said the difference is clear even without dialogue, and her own voice acting also drew praise.
The villain role of Jun Dai, however, has become the center of debate. Some viewers see it as a step out of the sweet-girl comfort zone she is usually associated with, calling it her best acting showcase. Others feel her performance as Jun Dai is “overdone,” “too exaggerated,” and “like an AI short drama.”
As for the story, the drama has been praised for its tight pacing, with plenty of twists and a satisfying storyline that has drawn a large audience.
