On May 17, the actress shared a formal apology after facing criticism for uploading a photo of the movie screen that was allegedly taken inside a theater.
In her statement, Lu Yuxiao said she had read all the criticism directed at her and sincerely apologized to the film’s production team and the public.

“I have seen everyone’s criticism. I would like to sincerely apologize to the movie Dear You and to everyone,” she wrote.
She also admitted that her actions had hurt the hard work of the filmmakers and negatively affected fans who support her. According to Lu Yuxiao, regardless of her original intention, what she did was inappropriate.
“I have deeply realized the seriousness of the issue. Thank you for everyone’s supervision and criticism. I truly hope this warm and wonderful movie will be seen by more people,” she added.
The controversy began after Lu Yuxiao uploaded a “live photo” showing part of the screen from Dear You. The post quickly sparked accusations of “daoshe” (盗摄), a Chinese term commonly used for secretly recording or photographing movies inside theaters without permission.

However, the situation also sparked debate online because similar behavior has become quite common on social media. Many regular moviegoers and even celebrities frequently share photos of movie tickets, theater screens, or short clips as a way to document and promote their viewing experience. Some netizens felt the backlash against Lu Yuxiao was exaggerated.
Still, as a public figure, Lu Yuxiao faced much heavier scrutiny than ordinary viewers. In recent years, China’s film industry has become increasingly sensitive about copyright protection and anti-piracy issues. Because of that, many people believe celebrities should set a better example when it comes to respecting cinema rules and protecting filmmakers’ work.
So far, there have been no reports of legal action against the actress. The controversy has mainly remained a matter of public opinion and industry ethics.
Lu Yuxiao is considered one of the rising young actresses in the Chinese entertainment industry. Born in Shanghai on September 27, 1999, she is known for starring in popular dramas such as My Journey to You, Blossoms in Adversity, Serendipity, Love in the Clouds, and Romance in the Alley.
