LayarHijau – The absurd crime drama Born with Luck (低智商犯罪) held an advance screening event in Beijing on April 30. Starring Wang Xiao and Tian Xiwei, the series has drawn attention for its unconventional take on the crime genre.
The event was attended by director Liu Haibo, original novel author Zijin Chen, and actor Ma Xudong, who all showed up to promote the drama in front of the media.
During the session, Liu Haibo shared his experience working with Tian Xiwei. He specifically highlighted her performance as a police officer named Li Qian. Despite this being her first time taking on such a role, Liu found her portrayal highly convincing.
“Once she put on the uniform, you immediately felt that she was Li Qian,” he said.
He also noted that Tian Xiwei’s personality closely matches the character—resilient and full of youthful energy. According to Liu, her ability to fully grasp the character not only made her performance stand out but also elevated the overall appeal of the cast, including the group dubbed the “Sanjiangkou F4.”
Original author Zijin Chen also made a lighthearted remark, saying that one of the biggest surprises was that Tian Xiwei had already gained significant popularity even before the drama officially aired, which drew laughter from the audience.
Meanwhile, Ma Xudong talked about reuniting with Zhang Zhehua and Xin Zai as part of the “Du She Bang” group. He revealed that in the story, their characters rarely meet face-to-face, as their interactions mainly rely on a “butterfly effect”-style connection.
In terms of the storyline, Born with Luck follows Zhang Yi Ang, a veteran detective assigned to Sanjiangkou to investigate a case. However, his mission soon entangles him in a complex web of crime and corruption. While pursuing a powerful criminal network, he unexpectedly receives help from a group of clumsy thieves, who inadvertently assist him in uncovering the truth behind a murder case.
The drama is set to premiere on May 4 on iQIYI with a total of 24 episodes. Combining crime, mystery, and absurd elements, Born with Luck is expected to offer a refreshing twist compared to typical crime dramas.
