LayarHijau – After nearly a decade of waiting, the continuation of the hit drama Princess Agents is finally arriving with the series Rebirth (冰湖重生), scheduled to premiere simultaneously on iQiyi and Tencent Video on April 8, 2026. The international title is officially just Rebirth, but the story and themes clearly continue the narrative that captivated audiences in the original Princess Agents in 2017.
Princess Agents was one of China’s most successful dramas of the late 2010s, with complex plots, strong characters, and intense political conflicts. The original story centered on Chu Qiao, a slave girl who rises to become a powerful figure in war and politics, and her relationships with two main male characters: Yuwen Yue, her protector and source of hope, and Yan Xun, a friend whose actions and emotions lead to dramatic conflicts. The ending of Princess Agents concluded on a tragic note when Yuwen Yue fell into a frozen lake during the final battle, leaving Chu Qiao in confusion and sorrow, while the world around her remained chaotic and unresolved.
Rebirth is designed to address some of the uncertainties left by the original series, picking up the story immediately after those events. In the new series, Chu Qiao, played by Huang Yang Tiantian, and Zhuge Yue, portrayed by Li Yunrui, both fall into the icy lake. Chu Qiao survives, and believing Zhuge Yue to be dead, she seeks an opportunity for revenge against Yan Xun, who now holds a more dominant role amid the chaos of the four kingdoms. As the story unfolds, she begins to suspect that the person she thought lost may still be alive, sparking a new wave of conflict in an increasingly unstable world.
Another major change in Rebirth is the casting of new actors. While the original Princess Agents starred Zhao Liying as Chu Qiao, Lin Gengxin as Yuwen Yue, and Shawn Dou as Yan Xun, Rebirth introduces fresh faces: Huang Yang Tiantian returns to play the adult Chu Qiao, Li Yunrui takes on the role of Zhuge Yue, and Zhang Kangle plays Yan Xun. Many longtime fans remain excited due to nostalgia for the characters and story they know, but some have expressed concern about whether the new cast can live up to the iconic performances and chemistry of the original series.
Additionally, the series features a name change for the main male character: what was previously Yuwen Yue in Princess Agents is now Zhuge Yue in Rebirth. This change is more than cosmetic; it aligns the character with the original novel The Legend of Chu Qiao: Division 11’s Princess Agent by Xiao Xiang Dong Er, providing a slightly different nuance to the character’s role and relationships compared to the first drama adaptation.
With a total of 40 episodes and a well-planned marketing campaign leading up to the April 8 premiere, Rebirth promises to be a must-watch for fans of historical, action, and romance dramas. It also offers longtime viewers the chance to finally see how the world of Princess Agents evolves beyond the events of the original series.
