The international title is officially just Rebirth, but the story and themes clearly continue the narrative that captivated audiences in the original Princess Agents in 2017.
Princess Agents was one of China’s most successful dramas of the late 2010s, with complex plots, strong characters, and intense political conflicts. The original story centered on Chu Qiao, a slave girl who rises to become a powerful figure in war and politics, and her relationships with two main male characters: Yuwen Yue, her protector and source of hope, and Yan Xun, a friend whose actions and emotions lead to dramatic conflicts. The ending of Princess Agents concluded on a tragic note when Yuwen Yue fell into a frozen lake during the final battle, leaving Chu Qiao in confusion and sorrow, while the world around her remained chaotic and unresolved.

Rebirth is designed to address some of the uncertainties left by the original series, picking up the story immediately after those events. In the new series, Chu Qiao, played by Huang Yang Tiantian, and Zhuge Yue, portrayed by Li Yunrui, both fall into the icy lake.
