LayarHijau — Meng Ziyi and Li Yunrui, the two leads of the romantic period drama Tigers Sniff the Rose (尚公主), shared their thoughts on their characters in a special cast featurette. The drama begins streaming today, October 23, on Disney+ outside mainland China. It is also available on Tencent Video and WeTV, Tencent Video’s international service. Meng Ziyi plays Mu Wanyao and Li Yunrui plays Yan Shang. The two previously worked together on the drama Blossom (九重紫).
Meng Ziyi said she is eager to meet audiences through the series. She said she has never played a character as vivid and uninhibited as Mu Wanyao. “I’ve never played a character like this, or said anything this arrogant,” she said.

Meng Ziyi did not specify which lines she meant. However, in the release-date trailer shared earlier, Mu Wanyao comes across as bold and assertive, including asking Yan Shang to wait on her during her bath, pulling at his collar, and moving in close to test his reaction. Netizens described the mood as both sweet and teasing, saying the romantic chemistry felt strong. The trailer has also lifted discussion of the pairing, known to fans as Fuyao Zhishang.
Li Yunrui said Yan Shang’s greatest appeal is the firm strength hidden beneath his gentle exterior. “Strength that never shows itself is the most captivating thing about him,” Li Yunrui said.
Tigers Sniff the Rose is adapted from the novel Shang Gong Ju (尚公主) by Yiren Kuikui. The story follows Mu Wanyao, a daughter of the imperial family who refuses to resign herself to fate, and Yan Shang, a gifted scholar of humble origins with unmatched intellect and strategic skill.
In Taiwan, Disney+ is also running a pop-up store themed around the drama through November 15 at the Coucou hot pot and tea restaurant in the Taipei Dome area. Fans who take photos with the Tigers Sniff the Rose installations and post them to Threads with the designated hashtag can exchange them on-site for limited-edition official fan cards. Those who also show their Disney+ subscription screen receive a limited-edition Fuyao Zhishang sticker set.
