Although the finale initially suggested a tragic conclusion, the story ultimately delivered a happier ending. After spending four years apart, Xiao Huayong finally reunited with Shen Xihe, turning their heartbreaking separation into an emotional reunion that brought many viewers to tears.
Tencent Video also released a special epilogue showing what happened after the finale. Four years later, Shen Xihe and Xiao Huayong’s son, Chen Yujin, has ascended the throne as the young emperor. However, because he is still a child, he quickly becomes jealous after his father returns home.
Now serving as the Empress Dowager, Shen Xihe devotes much of her time to caring for Xiao Huayong. Although he survived the palace coup and eventually returned to his family, the poison and severe injuries he suffered left lasting damage to his health. Even after recovering, his body remains weakened, prompting Shen Xihe to focus much of her attention on his well-being.
Feeling left out, the young emperor begins coming up with increasingly creative ways to compete with his father for Shen Xihe’s attention. In one memorable scene, he deliberately throws himself toward Xiao Huayong before pretending to be hurt when his father fails to catch him.
“My uncle always catches me. I thought Father could too,” the little emperor complains.
After Shen Xihe calms both of them down, the mischievous child continues pressing his father with questions.
“Father, why aren’t you saying anything? Are you angry? Or… do you not like me anymore?”
When Shen Xihe isn’t looking, the young emperor flashes Xiao Huayong a sly grin, prompting the crown prince to laugh.
“That’s definitely my son. He inherited all my tricks.”
The playful father-and-son rivalry quickly became one of the epilogue’s biggest highlights, giving viewers a lighthearted family dynamic after the emotional roller coaster of the main finale.
Despite the satisfying reunion and warm family moments, not every viewer walked away completely satisfied. From the finale through the epilogue, the drama offers very little explanation about what happened during Xiao Huayong’s four-year disappearance. His absence is only briefly attributed to recovering from his injuries and undergoing treatment to remove the poison from his body.
That lack of detail has become one of the biggest criticisms surrounding Blossoms of Power. Many viewers were left curious about Xiao Huayong’s missing four years, making the unexplained gap the drama’s most noticeable loose end despite its otherwise happy ending.
