He Yu, meanwhile, appears in a black robe decorated with intricate gold details around the collar and sleeves. Carrying a sword, he portrays Ye Youming with a cold and mysterious aura befitting the character of a seemingly untouchable prince.
The newly released short video also gives fans a glimpse of the unusual relationship between the two characters. It begins in the modern world, where Li Landi appears in a beige top and a light-colored skirt as she walks toward He Yu.
He Yu is dressed in a black baseball cap, black jacket, and jeans. He reaches for Li Landi’s hand and spins her around before the scene transitions to the fantasy world, where the two appear in their ancient costumes.
Li Landi is seen wearing a flowing purple dress with dark blue fabric underneath, while He Yu appears in a black robe and carries a sword. In another scene, Qian Yunxi even raises a dagger and attacks Ye Youming.
Instead of looking alarmed, Ye Youming remains remarkably calm as he faces her attack. The playful exchange offers a glimpse of the unusual dynamic between the characters, blending conflict, comedy, and romance.
How to Slay Your Boss is adapted from the manhua Tong Ling Fei (《通灵妃》). The story follows Zhao Yining, a modern office worker who suddenly finds herself transported into a game.
She becomes Qian Yunxi, a woman who is forced to enter a marriage as a substitute bride. There, she encounters Ye Youming, a cold-faced prince who looks exactly like her ruthless boss in the modern world.
Qian Yunxi decides to accept a mission from the game system to assassinate Ye Youming. However, her attempts repeatedly fail after she discovers that the prince is seemingly immortal.
The situation becomes even more complicated when the two are drawn into a series of dangerous encounters involving supernatural creatures. Along the way, Qian Yunxi gradually realizes that Ye Youming is completely different from her boss in the modern world.
Their relationship slowly begins to change. What starts as a tense relationship filled with suspicion and failed assassination attempts eventually develops into romance as the two grow closer through their adventures.
The casting of the male lead also went through several changes before He Yu was ultimately confirmed. Bai Jingting and Deng Wei had previously been rumored online as potential candidates for the role of Ye Youming.
He Yu eventually landed the role and was paired with Li Landi. With the release of the new promotional materials, the contrast between Ye Youming’s cold personality and Qian Yunxi’s lively nature has become one of the highlights of the drama, while the chemistry between the two leads has further raised anticipation for How to Slay Your Boss.
