LayarHijau – Raihaanun and Maxime Bouttier are set to star in Tante Sonya, WeTV’s latest original series and a modern adaptation of the 1990s film Catatan Harian Tante Sonya. Produced by WeTV Indonesia and Rapi Films, the 10-episode series will explore a complicated romance shaped by an age difference, workplace dynamics, family interests, and social expectations.
Tante Sonya was introduced at a press screening in Jakarta on Monday, August 24, with Hamish Daud, Dinda Kirana, and Sarah Felicia joining Raihaanun and Maxime as part of the main cast.

Raihaanun plays Sonya, a successful 42-year-old career woman who unexpectedly reconnects with Ben (Maxime Bouttier), a 28-year-old man she knew eight years earlier. Their reunion takes an unexpected turn when Ben becomes her subordinate at Dermawan Group.
The 14-year age gap is only one of the challenges facing the pair. Sonya and Ben must also navigate their complicated boss-subordinate relationship while becoming caught up in the internal politics and power struggles surrounding the Dermawan family.
WeTV Indonesia Country Head Febriamy Hutapea said the series was created to challenge social perceptions surrounding women’s choices, particularly when it comes to age and personal happiness.
“Through this series, we want to challenge the stigma surrounding age limits for women when making decisions about their lives. At the heart of Tante Sonya is a woman’s autonomy in choosing her own happiness without being dictated by social expectations,” Febriamy said.
For Rapi Films producer Sunil Samtani, adapting a well-known film from the 1990s for today’s audience required a careful balance between preserving its identity and introducing contemporary elements.
“Remaking a popular 1990s film for a modern audience requires careful consideration. We are committed to preserving the essence of the original story while introducing contemporary narrative elements that resonate with today’s digital audience culture,” Sunil said.
Director Surya Ardy Octaviand also faced the challenge of turning a 90-minute film into a 10-episode series. The expanded format allows the story to explore its characters and conflicts in greater depth rather than focusing solely on the central romance.
“The biggest challenge was expanding 90 minutes of film material into an intense and substantial 10-episode series. We are not simply selling an age-gap romance; we are also bringing a strong message about a woman’s absolute right to choose her own path in life, both in her career and marriage, without being subjected to social judgment,” he said.
The romance between Sonya and Ben is further complicated by the people around them. Hamish Daud and Dinda Kirana are involved in the power struggles and competing ambitions within the Dermawan family, adding another layer of tension to the story.
Sarah Felicia plays Lidya, Ben’s ex-girlfriend, whose manipulative and obsessive behavior becomes a major source of conflict. As Lidya’s presence brings Ben’s past back into the picture, Sonya and Ben’s relationship faces a growing threat that could affect both their personal lives and professional reputations.
Beyond the central romance, Tante Sonya also explores friendship, family secrets, workplace pressure, and identity struggles. The series expands the original story to reflect issues that can arise in both personal relationships and professional environments.
Raihaanun described Sonya as a character who reflects women trying to find happiness on their own terms.
“Sonya represents many women who are struggling to find their own happiness. The strongest message is the courage for women to make their own life choices, regardless of other people’s judgments,” Raihaanun said.
Maxime Bouttier, meanwhile, said working with Raihaanun was made easier by their existing friendship, which helped their on-screen chemistry develop naturally. For his character, however, the complicated relationship between personal feelings and professional responsibilities remained a key challenge.
“Building chemistry in the series felt very natural because we are all good friends. However, from an acting perspective, Ben’s biggest challenge was figuring out how to position himself amid the complicated professional relationship with his superior and the personal feelings he has,” Maxime said.
With its combination of romance, workplace rivalry, family power struggles, and public scandal, Tante Sonya aims to give the familiar story a contemporary treatment while retaining the core of its original premise.
Tante Sonya will premiere exclusively on WeTV on September 4, 2026.
