LayarHijau – In the fiercely competitive world of short dramas in 2025, The Beijing News, one of China’s most credible and influential entertainment news outlets, highlighted three titles that captured the attention of both audiences and critics: My Sweet Home (家裡家外), Summer Rose (盛夏芬德拉), and What a Good Girl (好一個乖乖女). These awards carry significant weight, as The Beijing News uses strict evaluation criteria, emphasizing story quality, character depth, and production skills, making them an important benchmark in China’s short drama industry.
The 2025 Best Quality Short Drama award went to My Sweet Home. This drama emphasizes heartfelt storytelling through the warmth of family life. Every simple moment—from a single meal to daily interactions—represents the essence of home. With light comedic elements, the use of distinctive regional dialects, cinematic-level cinematography, and realistic life details, the drama successfully evokes a vivid and authentic era.

The 2025 Most Popular Short Drama was awarded to Summer Rose.
Amid a trend of vertical short dramas that typically focus on fast pacing and dramatic conflicts, Summer Rose stands out with its gentle perspective that appeals to a wide audience. The drama exemplifies the successful transformation of Chinese short dramas into more detailed and high-quality productions.
The story avoids over-the-top or sensational plots, instead focusing on the inner world of its characters. Within a concise runtime, Summer Rose presents rich life details, bridges emotional gaps between characters, and creates realistic characters rather than mere stereotypes. The natural performances of the cast, combined with iconic scenes, leave lasting impressions on viewers in 2025.
The 2025 Most Talked-About Short Drama went to What a Good Girl. The drama showcases character-driven storytelling that challenges stereotypes, exploring women’s issues and self-awareness within a limited narrative space, becoming a major phenomenon in the first half of 2025.
The series rejects the old formula of “CEO rescues innocent girl,” instead presenting a female lead who is calm yet intelligent, alongside a male lead willing to guide while navigating opportunistic situations. The tension between exploitation and sincerity explores themes of self-rescue. One line that drew attention reads, “Please save yourself from all the disasters of this world,” considered a declaration of self-awareness for the year.
The Best Actor and Actress Awards for short dramas this year went to Liu Xiao Xu and Guo Yu Xin.
In Summer Rose, Liu Xiao Xu skillfully portrays Zhou Sheng An with nuanced depth, highlighting his mature acting and precise micro-expression control. From playing a patient spy in Dark Tide (暗潮湧動) to a talented young man facing challenges in Chang Lu Chu Xin, he continuously pushes genre boundaries and avoids repeating acting styles, bringing each character to life with dimension and vitality.
Meanwhile, Guo Yu Xin became a standout figure in the 2025 wave of short dramas. With a solid academic background, she masters a wide range of emotions across diverse themes. Whether as Bai Qing Mei in Summer Rose, the energetic lead in All Things Grow (我们野蛮生长), or the subtle and sincere character in In August Midsummer (在八月盛夏), she consistently penetrates the core of her characters, touching audiences with natural performances and emotional intensity.
