LayarHijau — Yan An has seen a surge in popularity through the drama Where the Mask Ends (嫁金钗). The actor, who stars opposite Tian Xiwei, has reportedly gained about 300,000 followers on social media thanks to his role as Lu Zhuo. He is now being called one of the rising young actors in Chinese dramas.
In the drama, Yan An plays Lu Zhuo, the heir of the noble House of the Duke of Ying, a shrewd and calculating man. Early in the story, Lu Zhuo has a negative attitude toward Wei Rao, the character played by Tian Xiwei. After Wei Rao’s true identity is revealed and she leaves, Lu Zhuo finally faces his feelings and pursues her wholeheartedly.

That change in attitude is said to have caught viewers’ attention the most. The contrast between the cold Lu Zhuo of the early episodes and the devoted Lu Zhuo of the later ones is credited with making the character endearing and bringing Yan An to a wider audience. His pairing with Tian Xiwei has also been warmly received, and both actors have seen their popularity rise.
Yan An began his entertainment career as a member of the South Korean boy group PENTAGON before moving into dramas, where he took supporting roles in several titles. He reportedly went through several rounds of auditions before being cast as Lu Zhuo.
As his popularity grows, he has also reportedly been named as a candidate for the male lead in the upcoming period drama Qi Xing Cai (七星彩). According to reports circulating in Chinese drama circles, the production team and the streaming platform Mango TV are said to favor Yan An because of his current popularity. No official announcement has been made.
If the reports are true, Yan An will star opposite Ju Jingyi. The two previously appeared together in Veil of Shadows (月鳞绮纪), when Yan An was still in a supporting role.
Qi Xing Cai is adapted from the novel of the same name by Mingyuedang. It follows Ji Cheng, the daughter of a wealthy merchant who is skilled in business, kind-hearted, and far from naive. She meets Shen Che, a shrewd nobleman’s son with a fierce temper. The two are evenly matched, calculate against each other, and fall into a love story marked by rivalry.
