Among those nine projects, the short drama Sonder: I’m Not an NPC (《SONDER我不是NPC》) became the first to enter production. The project also marks Zhao Lusi’s first role as a 监制, while she does not appear as a member of the cast.
Sonder: I’m Not an NPC began filming in Hengdian on August 22, 2026. The short drama is reported to consist of five episodes, with each episode running for more than 20 minutes.
The main cast includes Wei Xiao, Bao Jieyi, Zhou Zhiyi, and Houben. Zhao Lusi’s father, who is known by the nickname Zhao Ge, is also reportedly making a supporting appearance as a general.
Zhao Lusi has been directly involved in the production process. She has been seen discussing the story with the production team, offering input on the characters, and helping the cast better understand the roles they are playing.
Sonder: I’m Not an NPC follows several women who try to break away from paths that seem to have already been predetermined for them. The concept is reflected in the term “NPC,” which in the context of the story refers to someone who simply follows a predetermined storyline rather than having control over their own path in life.
For Zhao Lusi, the project marks the beginning of a broader involvement in the entertainment industry beyond acting. Her comments on September 21 suggest that her work behind the scenes is also connected to her desire to create opportunities for newcomers and the people working alongside her.
While Sonder: I’m Not an NPC has already entered production, not all of the nine IP projects announced by Zhao Lusi’s studio in August have been confirmed to have entered filming.
