LayarHijau – Chinese actress Wang Churan has opened up about her worsening eyesight, revealing that her nearsightedness has now surpassed 700 degrees. In a recent interview, she admitted she was shocked after learning that her prescription had increased by more than 100 degrees in just one year.

Wang Churan said her prescription was around 600 degrees last year. However, during her latest eye exam, it had climbed to over 700 degrees, shattering her long-held belief that nearsightedness would stop worsening after adulthood.

She believes her eyesight has deteriorated because of unhealthy screen habits, including using her phone while lying on her side and staring at the screen with the lights off. Laughing about it, she recalled that her mother once teased her by saying she looked like she wanted to “eat her phone.”

The actress also shared how severe myopia affects her daily life. Without her glasses, her vision becomes so blurry that she joked it feels as if she cannot hear either, simply because she often fails to notice when people are greeting or calling out to her.

With her prescription now exceeding 700 degrees, Wang Churan said she can barely distinguish anything more than whether someone is male or female when she is not wearing glasses. Because she frequently fails to respond to greetings, some people have mistakenly assumed that she is arrogant or intentionally being unfriendly.

As an actress, Wang Churan has also made a conscious effort to stop squinting, a common habit among people with poor eyesight. Instead, she has trained herself to keep her eyes open wider in front of the camera to achieve a better on-screen appearance.

However, wearing contact lenses for long periods while suffering from severe dry eye syndrome has created another challenge. She explained that when her eyes become excessively dry, her expressions can appear unusual, leading some people to believe she is rolling her eyes or giving them a dirty look. Wang Churan stressed that these reactions are simply caused by her dry eye condition and are never intentional.

Despite her severe myopia, Wang Churan said she has no plans to undergo vision correction surgery. She revealed that she developed a psychological fear of eye surgery after watching Final Destination as a child, as its dramatic surgical scenes left a lasting impression on her.

On top of that, her busy filming schedule leaves little room for the recovery period required after surgery. She is also concerned that the procedure could worsen her dry eye syndrome, potentially affecting her eye expressions, which are crucial to her performances as an actress.

Wang Churan’s candid confession quickly resonated with many online users. Numerous netizens said they could relate to the struggles of living with severe myopia, while fans encouraged the actress to take better care of her eyesight and adopt healthier screen habits.
