The lineup change has quickly drawn attention from Chinese netizens. Discussions on social media have linked Jin Chen’s replacement to two factors, including the controversy surrounding the actress earlier this year and Wang Churan’s rising popularity following several widely discussed drama projects.
Jin Chen Previously Faced Controversy Over Car Accident
Jin Chen previously gained significant attention after starring alongside Yang Yang in the Chinese drama The Immortal Ascension. However, in late January this year, allegations surfaced claiming that she had been involved in a traffic accident in March 2025 and had allegedly asked her assistant to take responsibility as the driver.
Jin Chen later addressed the controversy on social media. She shared photos showing injuries to her face and explained that the accident happened when she tried to avoid a dog, causing the vehicle she was in to crash.
The controversy continued to be discussed by Chinese netizens. Reports cited in the original material said Jin Chen lost around 100,000 social media followers within a month after the allegations emerged.
At the same time, Jin Chen has not had many new drama projects receiving major attention recently. Some netizens subsequently linked her absence from the Natural High IV regular lineup to the change in her recent popularity.
However, the show’s production team has not officially linked Jin Chen’s replacement to the car accident controversy. The connection between the two remains speculation among netizens.
Wang Churan’s Popularity Continues to Rise
Meanwhile, Wang Churan has been attracting increasing attention through several recent drama projects. One of the most notable is Overdo, a Republican-era romance drama in which she stars opposite Zhang Linghe.
Wang Churan also stars in How Dare You!? alongside Cheng Lei and Are You The One with Zhang Wanyi. The three projects have helped keep her name in the spotlight among Chinese drama viewers.
Her casting on Natural High IV immediately generated further buzz on Weibo. Wang Churan became a trending topic shortly after the new season’s lineup was announced.
Natural High IV will give Wang Churan an opportunity to show a different side of herself outside of scripted dramas. Her presence also adds a different dynamic to the cast, as she is the only female regular member announced for the fourth season.
Natural High IV is scheduled to premiere on Tencent Video on October 10. With Wang Churan, Bai Jingting, Wang Anyu, Fan Chengcheng, Huang Jingyu, Shen Teng, Jia Bing, and Hu Xianxu as regular cast members, the new season is already attracting considerable attention ahead of its premiere.
