LayarHijau – Snow Kong (孔雪儿) opened up about the similarities and differences between the two characters she portrayed in the costume dramas Pursuit of Jade (《逐玉》) and The Shadow Sovereign (《昭阳公主》). She said both characters share similar experiences of facing unhealthy relationships with male characters that viewers have described as “red flags.”
On July 23, Snow Kong, Li Hongyi (李宏毅), Liu Xuwei (刘旭威), Lin Xiaozhai (林小宅), and Xu Ziyin (徐紫茵) attended a promotional event for The Shadow Sovereign in Beijing, where the cast met with fans and media to promote the upcoming drama.

At the event, Snow Kong appeared in a black suit paired with curly hair. She immediately captured attention after spontaneously performing the viral hand dance from GGEZ with perfect timing, earning cheers from fans at the venue.
However, the highlight came when Snow Kong discussed the similarities between her characters in Pursuit of Jade and The Shadow Sovereign. After previously playing a character involved in a complicated relationship in Pursuit of Jade, she once again portrays a character who encounters a male lead with a darker side in her latest drama.
When asked about the connection between the two roles, Snow Kong jokingly suggested that perhaps audiences simply enjoy watching this type of storyline. She explained that both characters experience difficult romantic relationships.
On Chinese social media, male characters with this type of personality are often described by netizens as “yinshi nan gui” (阴湿男鬼), a popular internet term referring to men with a dark aura, manipulative tendencies, or behaviors that create unhealthy relationship dynamics.
Despite the similarities, Snow Kong emphasized that the two characters have different journeys. While her character in Pursuit of Jade experienced a more complicated relationship dynamic, her character in The Shadow Sovereign manages to break free from an unhealthy relationship.
“Unlike Pursuit of Jade, this time she successfully escaped from an unhealthy relationship,” Snow Kong said.
Aside from discussing her roles, the event also featured playful interactions between Snow Kong and Li Hongyi. When fans requested a “slapping” fan service moment from the two actors, Snow Kong immediately fulfilled their request, while Li Hongyi politely refused.
Li Hongyi then joked about the difference between their situations.
“If she (Snow Kong) slaps you twice, that’s flirting. If I do it, that would be considered violence,” Li Hongyi joked.
The Shadow Sovereign marks the latest collaboration between Li Hongyi and Snow Kong as they take on the leading roles in a historical romance story. Following her appearance in Pursuit of Jade, Snow Kong’s new drama has drawn attention for its emotionally complex characters and complicated romantic dynamics.
