LayarHijau – Chinese actor He Yu has opened up about the support he received from co-star Meng Ziyi while filming the hit costume drama Blossoms of Power (百花杀), revealing that her encouragement helped him gain confidence in playing Crown Prince Xiao Huayong.
Speaking in a recent interview with Sohu Entertainment, He Yu admitted that he wasn’t entirely confident about appearing in a period drama when production first began. He said Meng Ziyi’s constant encouragement made him feel more comfortable in the role.

“I have to thank Meng Jie. At the beginning of filming, she kept telling me, ‘You’re so fair, you’re so handsome, and you look great in costume dramas.’ Those words really gave me confidence,” He Yu said.
According to the actor, that confidence was essential in bringing Xiao Huayong to life. He described the crown prince as someone who carries himself with quiet confidence rather than showing off.
“Xiao Huayong is a very confident person. He’s not trying to show off his looks. His charm comes from the calm way he carries himself and how everything seems to be under his control,” he explained.
Beyond the role itself, He Yu also spoke about reuniting with Meng Ziyi after working together before. He said their long-standing friendship made it much easier to build emotional chemistry on screen.
“We have great chemistry and feel very comfortable working together. Every pair of characters we’ve played has had incredibly strong emotional intensity,” he said.
He Yu pointed to their previous roles as Mei Chaofeng and Chen Xuanfeng, as well as Xiao Huayong and Shen Xihe in Blossoms of Power, saying both couples shared a powerful emotional connection.
One scene, in particular, left a lasting impression on him. While filming an emotional farewell sequence in the snow, He Yu admitted that his feelings extended beyond the story itself.
“My first reaction wasn’t that Shen Xihe was leaving me. It was that Meng Jie was leaving. We couldn’t even look at each other because we were both emotional,” he recalled.
He Yu also shared that one of his favorite aspects of Blossoms of Power is how Xiao Huayong and Shen Xihe’s relationship develops naturally over time.
Rather than falling in love overnight, he said their bond grows gradually—from trusted allies to devoted lovers. He highlighted memorable moments such as Xiao Huayong climbing the snowy mountains to gather medicinal herbs for Shen Xihe, their heartfelt confession in the cabin, and the sacrifices they made for each other.
“I really love the way their relationship evolves,” he said.
Off camera, He Yu revealed that he and Meng Ziyi were surprised after watching viral clips of themselves online. Fans noticed the two often made the same gestures or burst into laughter at exactly the same moment without realizing it.
“We had no idea we were doing the same things. After watching the clips, we both wondered, ‘How did that even happen?’ If we tried to recreate it on purpose, we probably couldn’t,” he said with a laugh.
