LayarHijau – While many actresses in the entertainment industry are still obsessed with maintaining ultra-slim aesthetics, Dilraba Dilmurat has decided to tear up the rulebook. For Stephen Chow’s highly anticipated new film, Kung Fu Soccer, the stunning actress has completely overhauled her appearance, bulking up and getting noticeably more muscular.
This drastic transformation was done to bring Yu Long to life. Yu Long is the main striker wearing the number 8 jersey for the Emei team. Her character is described as a rebellious, wild-card player who seamlessly blends kung fu techniques into her soccer skills. To look the part of a gritty, formidable forward, Dilraba didn’t just show up; she proactively packed on 17 pounds of muscle, dropping her body fat percentage to an impressive 14%. On top of that, she chopped off her hair and let her skin tan deeply, perfectly capturing the vibe of a grassroots athlete who constantly wrestles in the mud.

But her dedication didn’t stop at physical changes. Dilraba underwent three months of intensive, closed-door training. She learned the basics of soccer from scratch, falling in the mud countless times. For the action sequences, she insisted on doing all her own stunts. During one particularly grueling scene, she performed a bicycle kick while suspended on wires, requiring 17 takes and leaving her waist covered in bruises. She even took a special trip to the Shaolin Temple to study the Bagua Wulang staff technique, cleverly converting the martial art’s power mechanics into devastating soccer strikes.
Kung Fu Soccer is a massive, ambitious project serving as the spiritual successor to the iconic Shaolin Soccer, 25 years after its release. The 106-minute film was produced with a staggering budget of 380 million RMB. A whopping 190 million RMB of that was dedicated purely to visual effects, featuring over 1,200 CGI shots. The film is officially slated to hit theaters on July 11.
Alongside Dilraba, the film boasts a star-studded cast. Comedic actress Zhang Xiaofei takes on the role of team captain Shuangshuang, while multi-talented idol Lay Zhang Yixing plays the kung fu coach, Xu Feng. The movie is further elevated by special appearances from veteran actress Carina Lau and former Chinese women’s national team goalkeeper Zhao Lina.
The biggest surprise, however, came from the newly released official cast list. Japanese heartthrob Takeru Satoh is joining the fray in a special role. This rare cross-border collaboration has sent fans into a frenzy, especially since netizens had previously spotted old photos of Takeru and Zhang Yixing together, speculating they were secretly filming Kung Fu Soccer.
Will Dilraba’s sheer dedication and the star-studded international cast manage to recapture the magic of Shaolin Soccer? We’ll find out when the whistle blows on the big screen!
