LayarHijau— The period costume drama Pursuit of Jade (逐玉) has officially cemented its status as the king of 2026 dramas with staggering achievements across the entertainment industry. Starring Zhang Linghe and Tian Xiwei, the series follows the journey of Fan Changyu (Tian Xiwei), a resilient female pig butcher, and her complex relationship with Xie Zheng (Zhang Linghe). With total views surpassing 3.6 billion, the drama has not only triumphed in ratings but has also exploded in the commercial market through official merchandise sales reaching astronomical figures.
According to the latest statistical data, the total merchandise sales for Pursuit of Jade have breached the 20 million yuan mark. This commercial success was evident from the very first day of sales, where the production team managed to rake in 1.58 million yuan in just six hours. That figure continued to climb, hitting 12 million yuan within half a month. This phenomenon proves the immense strength of the fan base built by this on-screen couple, making it one of the most profitable projects of the year with revenues far exceeding initial projections.

The most sought-after product by fans is the Xie Zheng doll gift box, portrayed by Zhang Linghe, which sold 1.16 million yuan. In second place, the Fan Changyu doll gift box by Tian Xiwei recorded sales of 1 million yuan. Interestingly, just one type of Zhang Linghe’s doll product managed to outperform the total merchandise sales of the drama Shine on Me (骄阳似我), starring Zhao Jinmai and Song Weilong, which previously held this year’s record with a total of 3 million yuan. “Pursuit of Jade has truly become an unexpected dark horse,” noted one industry observer regarding the surge in numbers.
This success is particularly surprising given that upon its initial announcement in 2024, the project was somewhat overlooked by many. The early plot in the original novel was considered less engaging as it focused heavily on Fan Changyu’s routine as a butcher without much romantic interaction with the male lead in the beginning. Many fans were concerned that Tian Xiwei would once again be cast in a sidelined female lead role, similar to her experience in the drama Guardians of the Dafeng (大奉打更人).
However, the script adaptation process for the screen successfully shifted that perception by highlighting the emotional dynamics and romantic tension between Fan Changyu and Xie Zheng in the latter half of the story. The powerful chemistry between Zhang Linghe and Tian Xiwei became the key element that kept audiences captivated every week. The character evolution from a simple butcher to a figure with deep ties to Xie Zheng was executed brilliantly, allowing the drama to surpass public expectations and become a massive hit dominating social media conversations.
According to reports, another factor supporting the visual success of the drama was the bold decision by both lead stars to take pay cuts for the sake of production quality. Zhang Linghe reportedly received a salary of 3.5 million, while Tian Xiwei took 3 million, allowing the production budget to be heavily allocated toward sets and costumes. This strategy proved highly effective as the aesthetic quality of the drama received widespread critical acclaim. With additional revenue from hundreds of advertisements during its broadcast, the production team has reportedly recouped all costs and achieved a massive net profit.
