Netflix’s The Red Line Reveals the Harsh Reality of Professional Call Center Scams in Thailand

LayarHijau – Calls from scam call centers have become so common that many barely question why people still fall victim. The Red Line (เส้นตาย สายลวง), the latest thriller-drama on Netflix, tells the story of ordinary people forced to take justice into their own hands when the system fails them.

The film comes from the creators of HUNGER คนหิว เกมกระหาย, directed by Sithisiri Mongkolsiri and produced and co-written by Kongdej Jaturanrasmee. The team spent months researching the world of call center scams, aiming to craft a film that channels anger, exposes the psychological scars of victims, and forces audiences to rethink the problem from a new perspective.

Exploring the unseen side of scam victims

Victims are often blamed when news of scams surfaces. The Red Line examines their psychological reality. Mistakes aren’t simply due to carelessness or greed—they result from scammers targeting fear, family love, or the desire to protect loved ones. In mere moments, wrong decisions can erase not only money but also confidence and a sense of safety.

Mew Nittha Jirayungyurn (Mew Nittha), portraying Or, one of the victims, shared her preparation:
“I watched news reports about people being scammed and felt their heartbreak beyond just losing money. Life savings, worked for over a lifetime, could vanish in minutes. Even if they want their money back, they don’t know how. Victims lose confidence and develop fear and suspicion in everything. Beyond money, they lose a part of themselves. I brought all that into my performance so viewers could truly empathize.”

Alongside Or, Fai (played by Esther Supreeleela) and Wawwow (Chutima Maholkul) portray the psychological impact on victims and their families with striking realism. Supporting actor Nuttanan Kunpat, who previously played Amy in Master of the House, adds further depth to the family dynamics affected by scams.

Revealing the rarely seen world of scammers

The production team conducted extensive field research to understand how call center scams operate—without cooperating with them directly. The film depicts offices modeled on real ones, with teams divided from line one to line three, each with distinct strategies to extract millions of baht from victims.

Todsapol Maisuk (Top), playing Ood, explained:
“You’ll see the call center world like never before. I spoke with real scammers who inspired Ood and discovered a highly structured system—competition, daily evaluations, rewards for success, and harsh penalties for failure. This system forces scammers to constantly develop new tactics to reach targets. The film helps audiences understand their motivations.”

Channeling anger into action

Director Sithisiri Mongkolsiri added:
“This film isn’t just entertainment—it’s a form of revenge I, as a filmmaker, can execute. We want to end the notion that being scammed is just bad luck. The film encourages viewers to think and act. When exploited—by call centers, politicians, or officials—do we stay silent, or do we rise up? That’s the core of the film.”

The Red Line is more than a story about victims. It challenges viewers to ask themselves: will they bow to fate, or rise and fight in their own way? Watch ordinary people’s quest for justice now on Netflix.
