LayarHijau – The costume drama Love Beyond the Grave (白日提燈), starring Dilraba Dilmurat and Chen Feiyu, is currently airing and quickly drawing attention. The series has not only achieved strong ratings but also topped popularity charts, outperforming Pursuit of Jade, starring Zhang Linghe and Tian Xiwei, as well as Live Up to Your Youth, starring Zhang Ruonan and Bai Yu.
However, during its early release, the drama faced criticism from some viewers in China, who felt that Dilraba and Chen Feiyu lacked chemistry as a leading pair. In addition, the pacing of the initial episodes was considered slow by a portion of the audience, resulting in a mixed early reception rather than an overwhelmingly positive one.

Dilraba plays He Simu, a powerful spirit king who was born without the five senses—unable to perceive color, taste, or other sensations most people take for granted. Her life changes when she meets Duan Xu, the young general portrayed by Chen Feiyu, who turns out to be the only person capable of connecting with her through the “shared senses” ability.
At first, He Simu approaches Duan Xu out of curiosity about his sword. But after discovering that he is the only one who can link with her through the sharing of the five senses, she begins to seriously propose a deal, setting the stage for a much deeper and more complex relationship between them.
In one notable scene, He Simu openly reveals that she is not human. Dressed in striking red, she tempts Duan Xu, saying, “You can make a wish to me. For example, I can save your life on the battlefield, but don’t expect me to help you win the war.” When Duan Xu replies, “What if I refuse?”, she responds immediately—cutting off his breath while pressing him down. “At this point, you don’t get to refuse.” The moment highlights her character as both innocent and cruel, yet undeniably alluring.
With the story moving forward, the increasingly fast-paced romantic development has helped ease earlier criticisms. Many viewers are now praising Dilraba’s performance for capturing He Simu’s complex nature—both pure and ruthless—while Chen Feiyu is seen as naturally portraying a young general full of secrets. Their chemistry has now become one of the key factors driving the drama’s rising ratings and popularity in China.
