LayarHijau – The Chinese drama Pursuit of Jade (逐玉), starring Zhang Linghe and Tian Xiwei, officially aired its final episode on March 26. Despite reports of leaks circulating online, many viewers still waited for the official release. Beyond the main ending, the production team also included a special epilogue at the end of episode 40, which quickly sparked widespread discussion.

Warning: This article contains major spoilers from the final episode.

The epilogue presents a parallel world—one where the tragedy in Jinzhou never happened. In this version, Xie Zheng and Fan Changyu have been connected since childhood due to their families’ close relationship. Growing up together and knowing each other from a young age, they eventually become a deeply in-sync couple, creating a warm and heart-fluttering storyline that captivated viewers.

A major shift is also seen in Xie Zheng’s family dynamic. He is no longer locked in a life-and-death conflict with his uncle Wei Yan, played by Yan Yikuan. Instead, their relationship is harmonious, with the two often discussing court matters together.

Meanwhile, the romance between Gongsun Yin, played by Li Qing, and the Grand Princess, played by Yu Zhongli, also develops beautifully, adding a layer of warmth to this alternate world.

However, the storyline that drew the most attention remains Qi Min and Yu Qianqian, portrayed by Deng Kai and Snow Kong.

In the main ending, their relationship had already left a deep emotional impact. Yu Qianqian is forced to serve Qi Min a bowl of poisoned soup. Fully aware of what it contains, Qi Min still smiles and drinks it. In that final moment, they finally lay bare the feelings they had long kept hidden, before Qi Min dies in her arms.

Rather than changing their fate, the epilogue reinforces the distance between them. In a world without tragedy, Qi Min grows into a refined and gentle royal heir. He remains close friends with Xie Zheng, Fan Changyu, the Grand Princess, Gongsun Yin, and Li Huai’an, and they travel together to Lin’an.

There, he meets Yu Qianqian again, now the owner of a restaurant. Their first encounter feels strangely familiar, as if it had happened before. Qi Min even finds his eyes welling up without understanding why.

Yet, that connection cannot be fulfilled. The moment he smells the soup she serves, he feels nauseous. When asked by Xie Zheng, Qi Min can only say that perhaps they are tied by something from a past life he cannot explain. Seeing her brings him joy, but he cannot bring himself to get closer.

To him, perhaps this is what it means to be connected to someone, yet never meant to walk the same path.

The epilogue ultimately leaves a lasting impression on viewers. Even in a world without tragedy, Qi Min and Yu Qianqian still cannot end up together, with many viewers admitting that this version feels even more emotionally resonant than the main ending.
