Spoiler warning: This article contains important details about the plot and scenes in The Early Spring.
In the footage, Jing Boran, dressed in a light blue shirt, pulls Sun Qian, who is wearing a white shirt, into a close embrace before the two share a passionate kiss. They then move from the entryway toward the large sofa in the living room.
Jing Boran is even seen taking off his shirt before continuing the kiss with Sun Qian, revealing a much longer version of the scene than what viewers saw in the episode.
In the aired version of the drama, the sequence was shown only briefly. As a result, many viewers assumed that was all there was to the scene. The newly released behind-the-scenes footage, however, surprised fans by revealing how much of the moment had not made it into the final episode.
Some viewers jokingly said they had previously watched a “sanitized version” of the scene, while the new footage offered a glimpse of what had originally been filmed before parts of it were cut.
The second clip that caught viewers’ attention features another kissing scene in the living room.
In the footage, Jing Boran, dressed in black, walks in and immediately pulls Sun Qian into his arms before kissing her. Sun Qian, wearing a soft white sweater, wraps her arms tightly around his neck as the two remain locked in a close embrace.
Their chemistry once again became a major talking point, with many viewers saying the romantic atmosphere in the longer footage felt even more intense than the version that appeared in the drama.
What made the clip even more entertaining was what happened after the director called cut. Sun Qian immediately broke character and showed a completely different side of herself. Looking embarrassed, she buried her face in Jing Boran’s shoulder and refused to look up.
The contrast between the intense romantic atmosphere while the cameras were rolling and Sun Qian’s shy reaction afterward left many viewers amused and charmed.
Rumors that The Early Spring had undergone significant cuts had actually been circulating online for some time.
According to online reports, the drama was originally planned to have 32 episodes but was reportedly reduced to 24 episodes before its release. If true, that would mean roughly a quarter of the original material did not make it into the final version.
Some viewers had already felt that the drama moved at a relatively fast pace, with certain stages in the characters’ relationship not given enough time to develop on screen.
Now, the release of the two extended kissing-scene clips has further fueled speculation that more important scenes may still be sitting in the editing room.
Many fans are now asking the production team to gradually release more of the deleted material. Some have even suggested that the unused scenes could be released as bonus episodes or special content.
The Early Spring has attracted viewers with its more realistic portrayal of adult romance. The relationship between Luan Nian and Shang Zhi Tao is not built solely on sweet romantic moments, but also on emotional push and pull, conflict, attraction, and the complicated feelings that come with adult relationships.
The release of just two longer behind-the-scenes clips has already sparked renewed discussion around the drama. It also shows that interest in the Jing Boran and Sun Qian series remains strong, while leaving viewers increasingly curious about what other scenes may have been filmed but never made it into the final cut.
