The Lament of Autumn Finale Set for Nov. 1, Three Days Earlier Than Viewers Expected

LayarHijau.com — The airing schedule for the Republican-era Chinese romance drama The Lament of Autumn (玉簟秋) has changed. An official airing calendar released Sunday (Oct. 25) confirms that the drama, starring Cheng Lei and Xu Ruohan, will end on Nov. 1, earlier than viewers had expected.

Viewers in mainland China had earlier worked out the end date from the usual airing pace. They estimated the finale would arrive on the streaming platform Mango TV on Nov. 4 and on the TV station Hunan TV on Nov. 5. The official calendar shows otherwise. The Nov. 1 (Sunday) box is circled by hand with a note that means “straight to the finale.”

On Mango TV, the pace picks up in the last week of October. From Oct. 26 to 29, the platform releases two episodes a day, taking viewers from episode 25 to episode 32. On Oct. 30 and 31, one episode is released each day, episodes 33 and 34. On Nov. 1, in addition to episode 35 on the regular schedule, the calendar indicates that the final episode will also open that day.

Hunan TV, through its Golden Eagle exclusive drama slot, follows a stricter schedule. From Oct. 26 to 29, the station airs two episodes each night, from episode 21 to episode 28. The drama does not air on Oct. 30 and 31. Broadcasts resume on Sunday night, Nov. 1, with episodes 29 and 30. As a result, by that night Mango TV will have reached episode 40, while television viewers will have reached only episode 30. The gap is 10 episodes.

A mainland Chinese film and TV distribution insider said the move follows the dianyingli model, a finale early-screening event that has become common for popular dramas there in recent years. Under this model, members can unlock episodes 36 through 40 early on the night of Nov. 1 using paid points or special perks. According to this analysis, the strategy holds viewers’ interest while the drama is generating buzz, and avoids the risk of the TV schedule shifting because of other events or programs.

Some viewers who had worried about running into scattered spoilers during a long wait welcomed the change. In the comments, they wrote, “At last, no need to wait until Nov. 4” and “Getting to the finale all at once is so satisfying!”
