LayarHijau – Jerry Yan has shared a heartfelt memory of the late Barbie Hsu, revealing how the actress supported him during one of the lowest periods of his life.
In a recent interview with the September issue of Red Show GRAZIA, Jerry said that Barbie Hsu, also known by her stage name Da S, had become much more than just a colleague to him and those who had worked alongside her.

“For us, Da S was no longer just someone we worked with. She was someone very important during a certain period of our lives,” Jerry said.
Jerry Yan and Barbie Hsu became an iconic on-screen couple as Dao Ming Si and Shan Cai in Meteor Garden. But according to Jerry, his memories of the Taiwanese actress went far beyond their time as co-stars.
He revealed that Barbie had always shown him genuine care, especially when he was going through difficult times.
“Over the years, when I was at a very low point in my life, she really cared about me. She would invite me to her home, have meals with me, talk with me, encourage me and help me work through things…” Jerry recalled.
Jerry also spoke about F4’s reunion tour during the interview. He shared what he hoped Barbie Hsu would see if she could somehow watch the four members standing together on stage again.
“If she could really see that stage, I hope what she sees isn’t us being sad. I hope she sees that we still remember those youthful days, and that we still remember her. That would be enough,” he said.
Jerry then shared his thoughts on how some people remain an important part of our lives even after they are gone.
“Some people don’t really disappear after they leave. They simply change from being ‘someone who walked alongside us’ to ‘someone we always carry in our hearts.’ I think she was that kind of person,” he said.
Barbie Hsu passed away in February 2025. The actress was widely known for playing Shan Cai in Meteor Garden, the drama that also propelled Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Ken Chu and Vanness Wu to stardom as F4.
Now, as F4’s reunion tour brings renewed attention to the group’s shared history, Jerry Yan hopes that the memories of their youth with Barbie Hsu will not be remembered only through sadness. For him, she may be gone, but she remains someone who will always have a place in his heart.
