“At the time, no one ever expected Barbie to pass away first,” Barbie Hsu’s mother revealed.
As she is not a legal heir, Barbie Hsu’s mother was not included in any meetings with the estate lawyers. This leaves her vulnerable to eviction from the home she lives in if the foreclosure proceeds. Facing this heartbreaking possibility, she expressed her distress to the media.
“Since I didn’t receive any inheritance and I’m already half-dead from the stress, let those who have inheritance rights handle it themselves. I’m being evicted from a house bought with my hard-earned money. I don’t understand the court’s decision, I have no answers! Thank you,” she shared emotionally.
Barbie Hsu’s financial situation at the time of her death left behind a heavy mortgage burden. Reports indicate that her bank account balance was only 2 million TWD (approximately $62,000 USD). Unfortunately, this amount isn’t even enough to cover a single month’s mortgage for the luxury Xinyi home, which ranges from 1 million to 1.09 million TWD (approx. $31,000 to $34,000 USD) per month.
Previously, DJ Koo (Koo Jun-yup) announced he was waiving his inheritance rights and now spends most of his time visiting Barbie Hsu’s grave. Barbie Hsu’s ex-husband, Wang Xiaofei, subsequently took over the mortgage for the Xinyi property, stating that the house will eventually be inherited by their two children. Two-thirds of Barbie Hsu’s estate will go to her minor children through a trust account established by Wang Xiaofei, while the remaining one-third share designated for DJ Koo (Koo Jun-yup) can be managed at his own discretion.
On the other hand, the total assets of Barbie Hsu’s estate are estimated to be substantial. Media reports estimate the total inheritance at around 1 billion TWD (approx. $31 million USD). This includes 660 million TWD (approx. $20.6 million USD) in real estate, comprising the 450 million TWD (approx. $14 million USD) Xinyi luxury home and the 210 million TWD (approx. $6.5 million USD) residence currently occupied by Barbie Hsu’s mother. The remaining 300 million TWD (approx. $9.3 million USD) consists of jewelry and other valuables.
Despite the massive total assets, Barbie Hsu’s mother confirmed that her daughter’s liquid cash was indeed minimal. She finds this reasonable, noting that after marriage, Barbie Hsu was no longer actively working and had to use her funds to raise her children and finance her legal battles with Wang Xiaofei.
“I’m practically a dead woman walking; I just asked for a place to live, but now I’m being forced to move out,” she added.
