LayarHijau – The popularity of Pursuit of Jade (《逐玉》) has clearly extended beyond China, with the hit drama starring Zhang Linghe and Tian Xiwei finding a particularly enthusiastic audience in South Korea. Now, a new clip featuring Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon offers another glimpse at just how far the drama’s reach has gone.
Even though Pursuit of Jade has already finished airing, Hyoyeon recently revealed that she has been watching the series at home as a way to brush up on her Mandarin.

In a recent TV appearance that gave viewers a look at her life at home, Hyoyeon explained that she likes using Chinese dramas to refresh her language skills. Her drama of choice was Pursuit of Jade, which has become one of the Chinese series that caught her attention.
Hyoyeon was not simply watching for the story. As the drama played, she tried repeating lines from the characters, using their conversations to practice her Mandarin.
When she came across dialogue she could not quite make out, she slowed the playback and listened again. She also switched on Chinese subtitles, allowing her to compare what she heard with the written dialogue and get a better grasp of the words and pronunciation.
Her study session did come with one rather persistent distraction, however. Her dog kept barking around the house, repeatedly breaking her concentration.
After the barking continued, Hyoyeon eventually called out her dog’s name. The little dog immediately came running over after hearing her call, prompting Hyoyeon to ask what it wanted.
She continued talking to the dog in Korean before suddenly switching to Mandarin and asking, “你想什么呢?”—essentially, “What are you thinking?”
The unexpected switch caught everyone in the observation room off guard and sparked plenty of laughter.
Hyoyeon’s casual approach to studying Mandarin is also a testament to how Pursuit of Jade has connected with audiences outside China. For her, the Zhang Linghe and Tian Xiwei drama is not just something to watch—it has also become a handy and entertaining way to practice Mandarin.
