Lumi is the kind of colleague every newcomer would want to have. She is highly capable at her job, genuinely looks out for her coworkers, and never hesitates to speak her mind. Her sharp tongue and brutally straightforward advice have quickly made her one of the show’s most entertaining characters.
Rather than becoming impatient with Shang Zhi Tao, who is still finding her footing in the workplace, Lumi takes the time to guide her. Whenever Shang Zhi Tao feels lost or unsure about how to handle a situation, Lumi delivers practical advice that gets straight to the point.
Her willingness to stand up for her coworkers, combined with her efficiency at work, has earned Lumi plenty of praise from viewers, with many jokingly calling her a “dream colleague.”
Lumi’s appearance has also added to her appeal. Her curly hair and stylish office wardrobe give her a distinctive look while reinforcing the image of a confident and capable professional.
Lumi’s Sharp Tongue Has Luan Nian in Her Crosshairs
Lumi’s sharp remarks are not reserved for Shang Zhi Tao. She also frequently takes aim at Luan Nian (Jing Boran), the company’s brilliant executive and her superior.
One particularly hilarious scene comes after Luan Nian and Shang Zhi Tao begin secretly dating at the office. During a flight, Lumi happens to be seated between the two of them.
Unable to hide his feelings, Luan Nian keeps sneaking glances at Shang Zhi Tao. But with Lumi sitting directly between them, she assumes that Luan Nian is staring at her instead.
Lumi immediately calls him out, asking why he keeps looking at her. She then jokingly offers to help him ask the airline about upgrading his seat, making it clear that she has completely misunderstood where his attention is actually directed.
She rolls her eyes at Luan Nian before getting up to head to the counter, turning the scene into one of the drama’s funniest workplace moments.
Zhang Yezhi makes Lumi particularly memorable through her sharp delivery, expressive reactions, and natural comedic timing. The character is more than just a supporting role, adding another layer of humor and personality to the workplace dynamics in The Early Spring.
Zhang Yezhi Previously Stood Out in The Dream Maker
Zhang Yezhi was already gaining attention before joining The Early Spring, thanks to her role in the period drama The Dream Maker (《小城大事》), starring Zhao Liying and Huang Xiaoming.
In the drama, Zhang Yezhi plays a young woman who works at a printing factory while also running a hair salon. She discovers a talent for design after attending night school in a small town.
Her abilities catch the attention of Zhao Liying’s character, a local official who recognizes her potential and gives her the support she needs to develop her talent. Zhang Yezhi’s character also develops romantic feelings for Huang Xiaoming’s character.
Her journey eventually hits a major obstacle when she becomes involved in a dispute over the copyright of her packaging designs. Zhao Liying’s character steps in to help resolve the conflict while ensuring that her creative work is protected.
After overcoming the setback, Zhang Yezhi’s character goes on to establish her own studio. She later works alongside Zhao Liying’s character to develop new packaging designs for local products.
The designs become a success and help contribute to the town’s wider industrial development. The relationship between the two characters became one of the drama’s highlights, portraying the journey of a talented newcomer whose potential is recognized by someone willing to give her a chance.
Now, The Early Spring has given Zhang Yezhi another opportunity to shine. While her previous role highlighted a young woman discovering and pursuing her creative potential, Lumi allows her to showcase a completely different side of her acting.
As Lumi, she plays a confident, intelligent and highly capable professional who genuinely cares about her coworkers while delivering some of the drama’s funniest and most memorable lines.
The popularity of Lumi also shows that a well-written supporting character can stand out even in a drama centered on a highly anticipated romance. With Zhang Yezhi’s natural and entertaining performance, Lumi has become one of the most memorable characters in The Early Spring.
