However, in a surprising turn, illegal websites in China leaked the final 10 episodes ahead of schedule, revealing the full ending before the official release. The leak quickly spread widely, sparking massive online discussion. Keywords related to the leak and the ending surged to the top of trending topics on Weibo.
The drama originally released two episodes per day, before switching to one episode per day starting on the 16th, building anticipation among viewers. But on March 21, when episode 30 was officially released, the complete 40-episode version had already been circulating illegally online.
What makes the situation even more sensitive is that the leaked version is reportedly a high-quality official cut, even linked to internal platform sources such as iQIYI and Tencent Video. This has raised speculation that the leak may have occurred during an internal stage, possibly in the review process.
Beyond piracy concerns, viewers have also noticed differences between the official broadcast and the leaked version. After comparisons, more than 10 key scenes were reportedly missing from the official release, including action sequences, emotional turning points, and supporting character arcs. As a result, the official version has faced criticism for uneven storytelling and unclear character development.
Based on the leaked version, the ending of Pursuit of Jade is described as largely satisfying, with the central conflict reaching a full resolution. The female lead, played by Tian Xiwei, is said to successfully complete her long-standing revenge tied to a past tragedy and gain recognition for her role in the conflict.
Meanwhile, the male lead, played by Zhang Linghe, also undergoes a major shift in power and responsibility after the conflict concludes. The two characters ultimately choose to step away from political turmoil and return to a quieter life.
The power struggle within the court also reaches its climax, with several antagonists falling after their schemes are exposed. Some are said to meet tragic ends following their failed attempts to seize control.
In response to the incident, on March 22, the drama’s official account released a firm statement. The production team stated that they will thoroughly investigate the source of the leak and take strict action against those involved. They also emphasized that they reserve the right to pursue legal action, including criminal charges and compensation for damages, while urging viewers to support official platforms and refrain from sharing illegal content.
From a legal perspective, entertainment lawyer Li Zhenwu explained that uploading or sharing pirated content links constitutes a direct infringement of information network dissemination rights. If conducted for profit and on a serious scale, offenders may face charges under Article 217 of China’s Criminal Law, with penalties ranging from three to ten years in prison along with fines.
This case has also drawn comparisons to the major leak of Joy of Life in 2019, which similarly sparked widespread concern across the industry.
