LayarHijau – Deng Kai’s personal life has come under renewed scrutiny after a trending topic on Weibo on March 22 reignited discussions about his past relationship. The topic claimed that his ex-girlfriend is actress Zhu Shengyi, drawing widespread attention at a time when his current drama Pursuit of Jade is gaining strong popularity.
Deng Kai is currently in the spotlight for his role as Qi Min in Pursuit of Jade. His striking appearance—featuring white hair, a cold aura, and a complex, morally gray character—has captivated viewers. As his popularity rises, netizens have begun revisiting his personal life. One widely circulated post claimed that Zhu Shengyi is his former girlfriend.
Zhu Shengyi is best known for her role as Shi Xiaonian in I Love My President Though He’s A Psycho (Zongcai Zai Shang), a CEO-themed romance drama that gained traction on online platforms. She also appeared in the costume fantasy drama Sword and Fairy Love, which has been linked to her past interactions with Deng Kai.
According to circulating information, the two reportedly started dating in 2021. They were spotted together multiple times, from casual outings to public interactions, and even worked on the same project, further fueling speculation about their relationship.
Their relationship drew major attention in 2023, when Deng Kai gained recognition for his role as Ling Changjin in Butterflied Lover (风月变). The on-screen romance involving his character became popular among viewers, leading to a surge in “CP fans.”
However, that popularity also triggered backlash. Some CP fans began leaving negative comments targeting Zhu Shengyi, with some even openly urging Deng Kai to break up and pair up with his co-star instead.
Amid the situation, Deng Kai publicly showed support for Zhu Shengyi by leaving a comment on her social media, praising her appearance. However, Zhu Shengyi’s emotional response at the time sparked further controversy, as some viewers felt it disrupted the promotional atmosphere of the drama.
The backlash placed both of them under public pressure. Zhu Shengyi later posted a lengthy apology, explaining that she had been receiving a large number of negative comments daily and reacted emotionally. She also expressed her support for Deng Kai’s hard work on his drama.
Their relationship eventually came to an end. In January 2025, Zhu Shengyi revealed during a livestream that she and Deng Kai had broken up and that she is now single.
Despite that, some netizens continue to speculate that the two may not have completely ended things and could be keeping their relationship private. However, neither party has confirmed these claims.
As the rumors resurface, Deng Kai’s popularity continues to rise thanks to Pursuit of Jade, which remains one of the most talked-about Chinese dramas at the moment.
