LayarHijau – The costume drama Unveil: Jadewind (唐宮奇案), starring Bai Lu and Wang Xingyue, officially aired its final episode on February 22. From the very beginning, the series blended political intrigue, a long-buried family massacre, and a romance that blossomed amid danger. In its closing chapters, all lingering mysteries are finally unraveled. So, does the story of Li Peiyi and Xiao Huaijin conclude with happiness—or heartbreak?

(Warning: This article contains spoilers.)

In Episodes 33 and 34, Li Peiyi, played by Bai Lu, finally confirms that the mastermind behind her family’s massacre at Prince Duan’s residence was the Right Chancellor—the elder brother of Consort Shu. Years ago, he orchestrated the tragedy to consolidate his political power within the court.

After uncovering the truth she had pursued for 16 years, Li Peiyi carefully devises her revenge. She knows her lover, Xiao Huaijin (played by Wang Xingyue), is a man who strictly upholds the law and would never allow her to become a killer. Instead of acting recklessly, she sets a calculated trap. Li Peiyi manipulates the Right Chancellor into believing that Consort Shu is in danger inside the palace. Provoked into action, he mobilizes troops—only to fall into her scheme. His actions brand him a rebel and traitor before he can defend himself.

Stripped of his authority and reputation, the Right Chancellor ultimately meets his end in a dramatic confrontation that serves as the climax of the series. Li Peiyi’s long-awaited revenge is finally fulfilled.

With the truth laid bare, Li Peiyi reports everything to the Emperor, exposing the hypocrisy hidden behind layers of power. Having accomplished her mission, she chooses to retire from political life. Soon after, Xiao Huaijin makes the same decision, abandoning his official position to build a future with the woman he loves.

In a touching final scene, the two stand together overlooking the glowing city below. With a trembling voice, Li Peiyi confesses that now that her revenge is complete, she can finally say goodbye to her parents who died so tragically. Xiao Huaijin gently holds her hand and reassures her that the 16-year wait is over—and from now on, he will always remain by her side.

Beneath fireworks shimmering across the night sky, they share a kiss, marking the beginning of a new life far away from court conspiracies and bloodshed.

Meanwhile, Wu Ren (played by Zhao Qing) succeeds Li Peiyi as the new head of the Internal Investigation Bureau after her retirement. He continues solving cases alongside Gu Lingzhou (played by Zhao Yiqin), while also nurturing their own romance, giving the secondary couple a sweet and satisfying conclusion.

Although the drama closes on a happy note for its main characters, audience reactions have been divided. Some viewers praise the emotionally rewarding ending after such a long and painful journey. Others argue that the most complex case in the series—the massacre of Prince Duan’s family—was resolved too simply. The investigation process and the details of the Right Chancellor’s crimes were seen as lacking depth, which reduced the tension in the final episodes.

Regardless of the mixed responses, the retirement scene and the kiss beneath the shimmering fireworks stand out as the most memorable moments of the finale—an affirmation that, for Li Peiyi and Xiao Huaijin, love ultimately triumphs over revenge and ambition.
