LayarHijau – Police in Keqiao District, Zhejiang Province, have released the results of their investigation into the alleged hit-and-run incident involving actress Jin Chen. In an official statement issued on January 30, authorities confirmed that no insurance fraud was found in connection with the case.
According to a statement cited by Sohu Entertainment, police said they took notice on January 29 of online reports alleging that Jin Chen had been involved in a traffic accident in Shaoxing’s Keqiao area and that someone else had falsely claimed to be the driver. In response, a special task force was immediately established to re-examine the case, including a full review of the accident details and the handling procedures.

The investigation found that on March 16, 2025, at around 11:00 a.m., Jin Chen was traveling with two companions, Xu Mouqing and Liu Mouyi. After verification, all three were confirmed to be from outside the province and were visiting Shaoxing for the first time. They spent the day sightseeing and shopping in Keqiao Ancient Town. At approximately 3:07 p.m., Jin Chen, who holds a valid driver’s license, was driving a black SUV with a Shanghai license plate.
While passing through a section of road in Huatang, Keqiao, the vehicle was involved in a single-car accident after the driver attempted to avoid a dog that suddenly ran onto the road. The incident resulted in minor injuries to all three occupants and caused damage to the vehicle, a roadside traffic sign, and a nearby residential wall.
Following the accident, Jin Chen sustained facial injuries and urgently sought medical treatment. She left the scene by taxi with Liu Mouyi and traveled directly to a hospital in Shanghai, while Xu Mouqing remained at the scene to report the incident to the police.
During the initial handling of the case, Xu Mouqing told officers that he was the driver. Based on the preliminary assessment, police classified the incident as a single-vehicle accident with no apparent abnormalities and processed it under simplified procedures. However, further investigation later confirmed that Xu Mouqing did not file any insurance claim after the incident. Authorities therefore concluded that there was no insurance fraud involved.
Police stated that any traffic violations related to the incident would be handled in accordance with the law, while other related issues are still under further review. The conduct of the traffic police involved in the original handling of the case is also being re-examined by higher-level authorities. Police urged the public not to spread rumors or believe unverified information.

Later on January 30, Jin Chen released a public apology addressing the incident. She confirmed that on March 16, 2025, she had rented a car with her manager and assistant and was the actual driver at the time of the accident. Jin Chen explained that the crash occurred when she swerved to avoid a small dog that suddenly appeared on the road, causing the vehicle to hit a warning sign and a residential wall.
She acknowledged that only the three of them were present at the scene. Due to the severity of her injuries, her manager immediately took her to the hospital for emergency treatment and surgery, while her assistant stayed behind to handle matters related to the accident. In a moment of panic and emotional stress, the assistant told police that he was the driver and cooperated in completing the accident report.
Jin Chen said that after regaining consciousness following surgery and learning how the incident had been handled, she believed that as the actual driver, she must take full responsibility. She therefore instructed her assistant to contact the insurance company to cancel any insurance claims and personally covered all vehicle repair costs as well as compensation for damage to public facilities and the residential wall. According to her statement, all related compensation was fully settled in April 2025.
In her apology, Jin Chen expressed deep remorse for failing to set a good example as a public figure. She also acknowledged that her actions had caused public concern and occupied social resources. She pledged to reflect seriously on the incident, strictly comply with traffic laws in the future, and act more cautiously while fulfilling her social responsibilities.
