LayarHijau– The latest Chinese drama Shine On Me (骄阳似我) has successfully captured public attention since its premiere on WeTV. Carrying a modern romance story with a warm and realistic approach, the series has become a hot topic on social media thanks to its relatable portrayal of young adults navigating the transition from campus life to adulthood.

Adapted from the popular novel by Gu Man, Shine On Me is directed by Chen Zhoufei and stars Zhao Jin Mai alongside Song Weilong. From its earliest episodes, the two leads deliver strong emotional chemistry, which has become one of the drama’s main attractions and keeps viewers invested in the unfolding story.

Shine On Me centers on Nie Xi Guang, a university graduate portrayed as cheerful and optimistic. Beneath her bright personality, however, Xi Guang carries painful memories from her college years that leave a deep emotional scar. A key figure in that period of her life is Zhuang Xu, a top-performing student known for his cold demeanor and distant personality, making him difficult to approach.

Zhuang Xu is not in the same class as Xi Guang, but they attend the same university. Their paths cross when Zhuang Xu becomes a private tutor for Xi Guang’s younger cousin and frequently visits her family home. Through these encounters, Xi Guang gradually develops feelings for him.

Complications arise when Xi Guang learns that Zhuang Xu is the childhood friend of Ye Rong, her own dormmate. The two have been close since they were young, and rumors spread widely on campus suggesting that Zhuang Xu and Ye Rong are in a romantic relationship. Troubled by uncertainty, Xi Guang attempts to clarify the situation by directly asking Ye Rong about her relationship with Zhuang Xu. Ye Rong’s vague response leads Xi Guang to believe that they are merely close friends.

Holding onto that belief, Xi Guang chooses honesty and courage. She openly confesses her love to Zhuang Xu and declares that she will pursue him until her feelings are returned. Instead of resolving the situation, her confession spreads across campus and turns into a damaging rumor. Xi Guang is labeled as someone who steals another woman’s boyfriend and is accused of betraying her own friend. As a result, her relationship with Zhuang Xu, Ye Rong, and the rest of their friend group becomes tense and awkward.

Zhuang Xu’s continued cold attitude, combined with the mixed signals he gives, makes Xi Guang’s final year at university emotionally exhausting and deeply unhappy. The conflict reaches its peak when Ye Rong accuses Xi Guang of sabotaging a job interview opportunity at a prestigious company in Shanghai. During the dispute, Zhuang Xu appears to side with Ye Rong, while the rest of their friends are caught in an uncomfortable position. The accusation spreads throughout campus, further reinforcing Xi Guang’s negative image.

Although the truth eventually comes to light and Xi Guang is proven innocent, the series of events involving Zhuang Xu and Ye Rong leaves a lasting impact. Once known as cheerful, brave, and confident, Xi Guang becomes emotionally withdrawn and traumatized, carrying those wounds with her as she graduates and enters the working world.

In the next phase of her life, Xi Guang meets Lin Yu Sen, a former doctor who has found success in the solar energy industry. Their first encounters are awkward and filled with misunderstandings. Over time, however, frequent interactions allow mutual understanding to grow. Unlike her past experiences, Lin Yu Sen is portrayed as a steady and supportive presence, gradually helping Xi Guang confront her trauma and rebuild her self-confidence.

Rather than relying on dramatic conflicts, Shine On Me presents a romance that develops slowly and maturely. The relationship between Xi Guang and Lin Yu Sen grows naturally alongside her emotional healing and journey of self-discovery. This grounded approach gives the story a warm tone and makes it especially relatable for younger audiences.

Shine On Me consists of 36 episodes, each running approximately 45 minutes, and streams exclusively on WeTV.
