LayarHijau – On October 31, several behind-the-scenes videos showing Hu Yitian and Tian Xiwei filming a kiss scene for the upcoming drama Genius Girlfriend began circulating on Weibo, sparking widespread reactions among Chinese netizens.
In the leaked footage, Hu Yitian and Tian Xiwei share a kiss under a gentle snowfall. Due to their height difference, Tian Xiwei is seen tiptoeing slightly to reach Hu Yitian. The two actors appear close, embracing naturally for the romantic scene, though not tightly. The camera angle in the clips is somewhat distant, making the details of the kiss hard to see, but the mood remains tender and atmospheric. In one video, the scene is repeated with slightly different levels of intensity.

“Leaked photos of Hu Yitian and Tian Xiwei kissing in the snow give off a total K-drama vibe!” one Weibo user wrote in a status post featuring clips of the scene.
Another netizen shared the video with the caption, “My long-awaited Jiang Yubai is finally here! I can’t believe it! Both the male and female leads are incredibly good-looking. It’s Lin Zhixia and Jiang Yubai!”
One user gushed, “Snowy night kiss, behind the scenes! All the waiting and support has finally paid off @HuYitian. Their love blossoms under the snow—this atmosphere is perfect!”
Another wrote, “Oh my god, the snowy night kiss scene is so atmospheric! Can Genius Girlfriend air this winter? I need a Chinese drama to watch every winter!”
However, reactions were more divided when rumors first surfaced about Hu Yitian and Tian Xiwei being cast as the leads in the drama. Some fans were excited to see Hu Yitian back at work after a long break, but others were less enthusiastic. Several questioned why Hu would take the role of second male lead instead of the main position. There was also concern about him playing a high school character at his age.
“How long is he going to keep playing teenage boys?” one comment read bluntly.
The drama follows Lin Zhixia (Tian Xiwei), a genius girl who is straightforward but socially awkward, and has had no friends since childhood. After enrolling at the province’s No. 1 High School, she meets Jiang Yubai (Hu Yitian), a popular and cheerful student who becomes her deskmate after they encounter each other during an academic competition.
Jiang Yubai, who is well-liked and outgoing, helps Lin Zhixia adapt to her new environment. He introduces her to his close friends—Tang Tingting, Duan Qiyan, Shen Fuxuan, and Jin Baihui. In return, Lin Zhixia tutors him. Their relationship gradually evolves from academic rivals to best friends who rely on each other.
Together, they expose a scam involving a classmate, participate in club activities, and compete in the provincial math contest. During this time, Jiang Yubai starts to develop feelings for Lin Zhixia, though he keeps them to himself.
When Lin Zhixia is accepted into Fudan University, Jiang Yubai plans to confess his feelings during their graduation trip. But his mother becomes involved in a fraud case, forcing him to leave in regret. Will the two of them be able to reunite and overcome the challenges standing in their way?
