LayarHijau– Chinese actor Liu Yuning, who gained widespread recognition after starring in A Journey to Love (一念关山) alongside Liu Shishi., has gradually built a solid career. His following works, The Story of Pearl Girl (珠帘玉幕) and The Prisoner of Beauty (美人弓), also earned favorable ratings and reviews, helping him rise to the ranks of leading male stars.
In a recent exclusive interview with Beijing Youth Daily, Liu Yuning revealed a surprisingly vulnerable side of himself. “If I don’t have any work for three days, I’ll start a livestream,” he shared frankly. This confession sparked lively discussion among netizens, with many surprised that such a popular actor still feels insecure.

Liu Yuning is currently starring alongside Li Yitong in the drama A Dream Within a Dream (书梦). The series tells the story of Song Xiaoyu, a struggling actress from the bottom tier of the industry who accidentally travels into the world of a script she once performed in, taking on the tragic role of Song Yimeng. In her struggle to change her doomed fate, she clashes with the cold-hearted male lead Nan Heng, and their battles against destiny eventually turn into love.
In this drama, Liu Yuning plays two sharply contrasting characters. He portrays Nan Heng, a ruthless prince who manipulates the female lead to seize power, and Li Shiliu, a mysterious swordsman who secretly protects her. These dual roles put his acting skills to the test.
Liu Yuning’s humble beginnings are well known to the public. Before his entertainment career, he worked as a chef and restaurant waiter. Chasing his dream of becoming a singer, he once sang on the streets to make ends meet. Only later did he start gaining recognition, eventually transitioning into a singer and then an actor.
In his interview, Liu Yuning admitted that taking a break from work makes him uneasy. “If I don’t work for three days, I feel like the world no longer needs me,” he said. “So I livestream to let people see that I’m still here, still active in this industry.”
Livestreaming played a crucial role in Liu Yuning’s early career when he was transitioning from an internet singer to an actor. It became his main method to maintain visibility and build a fanbase. Even now, despite his top star status, he keeps up this habit. Many praise him for “never forgetting his roots” and believe his fame is well-deserved.
His livestreams usually last three to four hours, filled with casual chats, character monologues, live singing, and interactive segments often tied to his drama promotions. Some of his livestreams have reached over 60 million viewers.
However, with drama projects lined up one after another, his workload has become overwhelming. Fans who once urged him to stream now express sympathy, joking, “The three-day rule doesn’t apply anymore! Brother Ning doesn’t even have time to stream.” According to available data, since July 2025, Liu Yuning has been working for over 45 consecutive days without taking time to livestream.
