LayarHijau– Chinese entertainment circles are abuzz with speculation that Hu Yitian (胡一天) will soon return to the small screen as the male lead in Genius Girlfriend (天才女友), a highly anticipated youth romance drama adapted from a popular novel. Social media platforms, especially Weibo, erupted when industry insiders hinted that the rumored four-character title circulating online—“天才女友”—was indeed real, with many celebrating the phrase “网传四字为真” (“the four-character rumor online is true”).
If confirmed, this will mark Hu Yitian’s long-awaited comeback to drama filming after a hiatus exceeding 600 days, igniting excitement among his devoted fanbase. Fans have eagerly awaited his next project, and Genius Girlfriend seems to be a fitting return, spotlighting his signature boy-next-door charm.

The drama tells the story of a genius girl and her studious childhood friend (竹马), tracing their emotional journey from youthful classmates to lifelong partners in marriage. This beloved “from campus to wedding” narrative structure remains one of the most cherished tropes in Chinese romantic storytelling, emphasizing emotional growth and unwavering companionship.
Opposite Hu Yitian, Tian Xiwei (田曦薇) is reportedly secured as the female lead. Known for her vibrant performances in youth dramas, Tian Xiwei’s energetic screen presence is expected to complement Hu Yitian’s calm and steady demeanor. The potential chemistry between them has quickly become a hot topic among fans, who describe the pairing as fresh, dynamic, and emotionally resonant.
However, despite the flurry of excitement, no official confirmation has been issued by the production team, iQIYI, or Hu Yitian’s studio. As of July 10, 2025, all reports regarding Hu Yitian’s casting remain unconfirmed rumors, albeit widely circulated and treated as highly probable across industry discussions. Insiders describe the deal as “90% confirmed,” while emphasizing that an official announcement is still pending.
Further fueling interest are conversations about the source material’s nuanced characters, including a notable subplot involving a female supporting character and a same-sex romance storyline. Fans are eager to see whether the adaptation will stay faithful to the novel’s progressive elements, or whether it will undergo adjustments for television audiences.
Interestingly, prior rumors linked other actors like Zhang Kangle to the male lead role, but recent social media chatter overwhelmingly favors Hu Yitian as the front-runner. His established image as a “campus male god” perfectly fits the studious childhood friend archetype, making him an ideal candidate in the eyes of many viewers.
The online community reflects a spectrum of responses—while most fans are celebrating, some advise caution, using the phrase “吃瓜不信瓜” (“enjoy the gossip but don’t fully believe it”), reminding others to wait for formal confirmation before celebrating.
If finalized, Genius Girlfriend will likely blend themes of academic excellence, heartfelt companionship, and the bittersweet milestones of growing up together. With both leads beloved in the youth romance genre, the drama could become a standout in upcoming romantic series lineups.
For now, viewers and fans alike continue to watch social media updates closely, hoping for that long-awaited official announcement that will turn the rumor into reality.
