LayarHijau – Liu Haocun’s studio is taking legal action after remarks made by actress Han Peiying during a livestream sparked controversy. The comments were interpreted by some Chinese netizens as insinuating that Liu Haocun had been romantically involved with a director when she was 14.
On August 24, Liu Haocun’s studio released a lawyer’s statement on social media. The studio said Han Peiying had made false statements about Liu Haocun during the livestream and alleged that the remarks had deliberately misled the public and caused serious negative consequences.

The studio said the disputed content was still circulating online and that it reserved the right to hold the parties involved legally responsible. It also urged the public to remain rational, reject false information and refrain from spreading content that infringes on Liu Haocun’s rights.
Han Peiying and Liu Haocun Both Star in The Lead
Han Peiying is one of the actresses in The Lead (《主角》), while Liu Haocun plays the drama’s female lead. Han Peiying portrays Chu Jiahe, while Liu Haocun plays Yi Qin’e, the central character in the story.
Before the controversy involving Liu Haocun erupted, Han Peiying had already complained about the production of The Lead. She said many of the scenes she had filmed were cut from the final version of the drama. She also discussed the issue several times on social media.
Han Peiying later addressed comments about a scene in which Liu Haocun’s character was pelted with vegetables. The issue also became a source of frustration for Han Peiying because her character was involved in the scene. However, the details of that dispute are not central to the controversy that followed.
The situation escalated when Han Peiying appeared visibly emotional during a livestream. After a viewer asked her to reveal gossip about Liu Haocun, Han Peiying said that Liu Haocun had already been working with a certain director since she was 14.
Han Peiying did not name the director. However, because the remark came in response to a request for gossip about Liu Haocun, some Chinese netizens interpreted it as having a sexual undertone. They understood the remark as insinuating that Liu Haocun had been romantically involved with a director when she was 14.
The comment quickly spread across social media and sparked widespread controversy. However, the alleged romantic relationship was an interpretation of Han Peiying’s remark and has not been established as fact.
Han Peiying Later Denied Targeting Liu Haocun and Apologized
After her comments came under fire, Han Peiying denied that she had been referring to or attacking any particular actress. She said she had not intended to name or target any celebrity.
On August 24, Han Peiying issued an apology. She explained that excessive work pressure had pushed her close to an emotional breaking point. She said she became overwhelmed during the livestream, failed to express herself clearly and used inappropriate wording when discussing certain topics.
Han Peiying specifically stressed that she had no intention of targeting Liu Haocun or showing any disrespect toward her.
She also acknowledged that the controversy had caused real trouble and negative consequences for Liu Haocun, her team and her family over the past two days.
“Whatever my original intention was, the result ended up hurting an innocent person,” Han Peiying wrote.
She apologized to Liu Haocun and to viewers who had been made uncomfortable by her remarks. Han Peiying also said she accepted the criticism directed at her and would reflect on every word she says in public going forward.
Liu Haocun’s Timeline at Age 14 Comes Under Scrutiny
Amid the controversy, information about Liu Haocun’s teenage years also came under renewed scrutiny.
According to publicly available information, Liu Haocun was still attending middle school in Tonghua when she was 14. She reportedly met director Zhang Yimou when she was 16, while studying at a secondary school affiliated with the Beijing Dance Academy.
At the time, Zhang Yimou was working on the film Coming Home (《归来》). This timeline was subsequently cited by people questioning the insinuation arising from Han Peiying’s remarks.
However, it is important to note that Han Peiying never named Zhang Yimou during the livestream. His name was linked to the remark based on public speculation and Liu Haocun’s known timeline, so it should not be presented as a director directly identified by Han Peiying.
Liu Haocun’s Studio Reserves the Right to Pursue Legal Action
Han Peiying’s apology did not put an end to the controversy. On the same day, Liu Haocun’s studio released a lawyer’s statement, saying it regarded the information about Liu Haocun discussed during the livestream as false.
The studio alleged that the remarks had deliberately misled the public and caused serious negative consequences. It also said the disputed content continued to circulate online.
Liu Haocun’s studio said it reserved the right to pursue legal action against the parties involved. It also urged the public not to spread false information or content that could harm or infringe upon Liu Haocun’s rights.
The issue, which initially arose from Han Peiying’s complaints about scenes being cut from The Lead, has now escalated into a controversy over her remarks about Liu Haocun. Han Peiying has denied intending to target Liu Haocun and has apologized, while Liu Haocun’s studio has maintained its position that legal action may be taken over information it considers false.
