LayarHijau – Coolyun Entertainment (Kuyun) has released its latest Chinese TV drama ratings for Week 21 of 2026, and The Lead (主角) continues to dominate the primetime race by a wide margin.
Starring Zhang Jiayi and Liu Haocun, the period drama once again claimed the No. 1 spot across both CCTV and satellite TV rankings, further cementing its position as one of the biggest breakout hits of the year.

On CCTV-1, The Lead recorded an impressive average rating of 3.43 percent, making it the highest-rated primetime drama of the week. The series also reached a peak real-time rating of 4.1107 percent, setting a new all-channel drama ratings record for 2026 based on Kuyun data.
The drama’s explosive ratings growth and strong mainstream appeal have continued to fuel discussion online, with many viewers already calling it one of this year’s defining TV hits.
Coming in second was the costume drama The Heir (家业), starring Yang Zi and Han Dongjun. The drama recently premiered on CCTV-8 and posted an average rating of 1.23 percent this week.
Since its debut, The Heir has remained a stable performer in the primetime lineup and continues to rank among the strongest-performing costume dramas currently airing.
Meanwhile, Zhan Zhao Adventures (雨霖铃), the wuxia drama starring Yang Yang and Zhang Ruonan, landed in third place with an average rating of 0.77 percent on CCTV-8.
Although still trailing behind the top two dramas, the series has continued gaining momentum. Its peak real-time rating climbed to 1.1635 percent this week, marking a new personal best for the show since its premiere.
The Lead also topped the satellite TV rankings after airing on Dragon TV, where it recorded a 0.49 percent rating according to Kuyun.
Overall, this week’s Kuyun ratings revealed a clear gap between the current top dramas, with The Lead firmly leading the pack while The Heir and Zhan Zhao Adventures maintained solid performances of their own across different genres.
