Chinese Influencer’s Video Calling a Dead Woman’s Phone Number Goes Viral Again, Seen as a “Sign” After Her Death in a Traffic Accident

LayarHijau – A video of Chinese influencer Jiang Xiaorou calling a phone number said to have belonged to a woman who had died has gone viral again on Chinese social media. The video has resurfaced after Jiang Xiaorou herself died at the age of 24 following a traffic accident.

The video sparked discussion on Weibo on August 11, 2026, under the hashtag “Jiang Xiaorou and Avoiding Bad Omens” (#姜小柔避谶#). Some netizens now see what happened in the video as a sign after connecting the story behind the phone number with the traffic accident that later claimed Jiang Xiaorou’s life.

However, that connection remains speculation among netizens.

The Phone Call That Is Back in the Spotlight

In the video, filmed in July, Jiang Xiaorou took on a challenge from one of her followers to call a phone number considered frightening.

She said the number belonged to a woman who had died. The story circulating at the time did not specify how the woman died.

According to the story Jiang Xiaorou had heard, someone had called the number after the woman’s death and supposedly heard a scream on the other end.

Jiang Xiaorou then asked the person accompanying her to help make the call.

“Help me try it,” Jiang Xiaorou said.

The other person agreed, while hoping that nothing strange would happen.

When the call connected, a voice speaking English could be heard saying, “Can you help me?”

Jiang Xiaorou immediately said the sound gave her chills and asked the person beside her whether it could be heard clearly.

“Ah, that really gives me chills,” she said.

They then tried calling the number again. But there was no scream like the one described in the story.

“Wasn’t there supposed to be a woman screaming?” Jiang Xiaorou asked.

After listening again, they suspected the sound was simply an echo from the phone connection mixed with other noise.

“Could this just be an echo phone?” Jiang Xiaorou said.

At the time, the call was simply part of a paranormal challenge she took on at the request of her followers.

The Video Is Now Being Seen as a “Sign”

Jiang Xiaorou was involved in a traffic accident on July 15 while traveling from Guangxi to Guangzhou. She suffered severe injuries and underwent intensive treatment before eventually dying at the age of 24.

After news of her death spread, the phone-call video resurfaced and began circulating again. Netizens then started connecting the story about the phone number and the woman who had died with the accident that later happened to Jiang Xiaorou.

The moment when the voice on the phone appeared to repeat Jiang Xiaorou’s own words also drew attention.

For some netizens, the sequence of events feels like a sign. The hashtag “Jiang Xiaorou and Avoiding Bad Omens” (#姜小柔避谶#) subsequently became a topic of discussion on Weibo.

The phrase refers to the idea of avoiding words or actions believed to foreshadow something bad. Following Jiang Xiaorou’s death, netizens have used the hashtag to revisit some of the things she said and did before the accident.

Netizens Urge People to Show Respect

Some netizens have pointed out that Jiang Xiaorou repeatedly took on challenges involving things considered taboo through her paranormal content and various challenges suggested by followers.

One widely shared message, however, did not simply call on people to believe in ghosts or the supernatural.

Instead, it stressed that whether or not someone believes in ghosts or supernatural phenomena, people should still approach things considered taboo with a sense of respect and caution.

The message was essentially a reminder not to put one’s life at risk simply to challenge something considered taboo or to attract attention.

“Don’t use taboos to attract attention. Staying safe is the greatest blessing,” was the sentiment expressed in the post.

That view has become part of the debate following Jiang Xiaorou’s death. Some netizens believe that some of the challenges she took on went too far, while others continue to see her content as an attempt to challenge superstition.

Known for Paranormal Content

Jiang Xiaorou had around 1.28 million followers on Douyin and was known for content involving supposedly haunted locations, paranormal stories and various challenges suggested by her followers.

Jiang Xiaorou and some of her followers viewed the content as a way of confronting fear and challenging superstition, rather than trying to prove the existence of supernatural forces.

After her death, however, some netizens began looking at the same content from a different perspective. Her old videos have resurfaced, including the phone-call video that some now believe is connected to the accident that claimed her life.

Even so, there is no evidence that the phone call was a supernatural sign or that Jiang Xiaorou’s paranormal content caused or contributed to the accident.

What is known is that Jiang Xiaorou was involved in a traffic accident on July 15, suffered severe injuries, underwent intensive treatment and later died at the age of 24.

The cause of death of the woman whose phone number Jiang Xiaorou called in the video was not specified in the information circulating online.

The video has now gone viral again because some netizens see an unsettling parallel between the story surrounding the phone number and the accident that ultimately claimed Jiang Xiaorou’s life.

For some, the sequence of events is a disturbing reminder to show respect and avoid putting one’s safety at risk when dealing with things considered taboo.

Factually, however, there is still no evidence linking the video to Jiang Xiaorou’s death.
