24-Year-Old Internet Celebrity With Millions of Followers Dies After Crash, Chinese Netizens Link Her Death to Paranormal Content and Supernatural Challenges

LayarHijau – Chinese internet celebrity Jiang Xiaorou has died at the age of 24 after a traffic accident, sparking widespread discussion across Chinese social media. With around 1.28 million followers on Douyin, Jiang Xiaorou was known for paranormal content, exploring reportedly haunted locations and taking on supernatural challenges. After her death, some netizens began linking the crash to the various stunts and challenges she had filmed.

One of the incidents being brought up again is a video in which Jiang Xiaorou was reportedly asked by viewers to destroy a Guanyin statue. Some netizens viewed the act as disrespectful toward supernatural forces and suggested that her death was somehow connected to going too far in challenging things that should not be disturbed.

That narrative, however, contrasts with how Jiang Xiaorou and some of her followers viewed her content. They regarded her videos as an effort to challenge superstition, rather than promote belief in the supernatural.

Her Paranormal Content Was Framed as a Fight Against Superstition

Jiang Xiaorou was known for visiting places believed to be haunted, trying games and challenges associated with the supernatural, and taking on requests from her followers.

From Jiang Xiaorou’s perspective, and that of some of her followers, confronting things that people consider taboo or frightening was a way of challenging superstition. A Weibo hashtag translating to “Jiang Xiaorou Fights Superstition” (姜小柔反迷信) also drew attention after news of her death spread.

That left Jiang Xiaorou at the center of two very different narratives. To her supporters, she was a creator who confronted fear and superstition head-on. To other netizens, some of her stunts had gone too far and showed a lack of respect for traditional beliefs.

Her Final Video Adds to the Speculation

The discussion intensified after netizens revisited Jiang Xiaorou’s final Douyin post.

Her account, “Jiang Xiaorou Ya” (姜小柔吖), had around 1.28 million followers, with her last post uploaded on July 9. In the video, Jiang Xiaorou called a phone number that had been described as creepy or frightening at the request of her followers.

After news of her death spread, the video resurfaced and drew renewed attention.

Claims also circulated online that the number featured in the video was associated with a story about a woman who had died in an accident. Because Jiang Xiaorou later died following a traffic accident herself, some netizens viewed the sequence of events as more than a coincidence.

Others connected the video with her earlier content and argued that Jiang Xiaorou had effectively been “challenging” things that should not be disturbed.

However, the claim that Jiang Xiaorou’s paranormal content was connected to the accident or her death remains nothing more than speculation by netizens. There is no evidence establishing that any of her videos or supernatural challenges caused or contributed to the crash.

The Crash Happened While She Was Traveling From Guangxi

According to Jimu News, Jiang Xiaorou’s real name was Li Moumou, a 24-year-old woman from Lanshan County in Yongzhou, Hunan Province.

In the early hours of July 15, she was involved in a traffic accident while traveling from Guangxi toward Guangzhou. After suffering severe injuries, Li Moumou was taken to Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital in Guangzhou for intensive treatment.

She Suffered Severe Injuries and Fell Into a Coma

Medical records that circulated online indicated that Li Moumou suffered several critical conditions following the crash.

She experienced hemorrhagic shock, a life-threatening condition in which severe blood loss causes blood pressure to drop and prevents vital organs from receiving enough blood.

She also suffered traumatic coagulopathy, a serious disruption of the body’s ability to clot blood after major trauma, making it difficult to control bleeding. The records also listed multiple organ dysfunction, severe brain injury resulting in a deep coma, and dependence on a ventilator.

Her condition was critical enough to require intensive care and continued life-saving treatment.

Hospital Confirms She Was Treated There

On the afternoon of August 10, staff in the hospital’s intensive care department confirmed that a 24-year-old woman with the same name had indeed been treated there.

The hospital declined to disclose further details about her medical condition because of patient privacy. Staff said the hospital had communicated with her family.

A village official later confirmed that Li Moumou had died. The official also confirmed that she had worked as an internet influencer and had a substantial following.

Family Sought Help With Medical Expenses

The crash also placed a heavy financial burden on Li Moumou’s family.

According to information published by Xincun Village, the village’s charitable organization received a request for medical assistance for Li Moumou on July 21. Local residents subsequently donated 2,000 yuan to help her family with medical expenses.

The village said Li Moumou had been seriously injured and lost consciousness after the accident while traveling from Liuzhou toward Guangzhou, leaving her family facing a sudden and significant medical bill.

Family Asks Public to Stop Speculation

As speculation about Jiang Xiaorou’s paranormal content continued to spread, her family asked the public to stop making and circulating unfounded claims about her death.

In a message that circulated online, the family said Jiang Xiaorou was involved in the accident in the early hours of July 15 while traveling from Guangxi toward Guangzhou.

She suffered severe injuries and remained in critical condition. Her family said doctors did everything they could to save her, but her injuries were ultimately too serious and she died.

The family also urged the public not to spread rumors or unverified claims about what happened to her.

She Was Only 24

Jiang Xiaorou’s death at 24 has drawn widespread attention across Chinese social media. With around 1.28 million followers on Douyin, she had built an audience through content involving haunted locations, paranormal challenges and other activities that she and some of her followers viewed as an effort to challenge superstition.

After her death, however, those same videos became the basis for a very different narrative, with some netizens interpreting her challenges as attempts to confront supernatural forces and linking them to her fatal accident.

Her final phone-call video, the story involving the Guanyin statue and other extreme challenges she had filmed have all resurfaced in the online discussion.

Still, there is no evidence that her paranormal content or supernatural challenges caused or had any connection to her death. The confirmed account is that Jiang Xiaorou was involved in a traffic accident on July 15, suffered severe injuries, received intensive medical treatment and later died at the age of 24.
