Part of the donation will also be used to improve the hospital’s wards, helping provide young patients with a safer and more comfortable environment while they receive treatment.

Kim Ji-won said her decision to donate was inspired by what she witnessed while filming her upcoming medical noir drama, “Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia.”

“While filming ‘Doctor X,’ I had the opportunity to see firsthand the dedication of medical professionals and hear the stories of children who are battling illness. That experience led me to make this donation,” Kim Ji-won said.

She also expressed her gratitude and support for the medical staff, young patients, and their families who continue to face difficult circumstances.

“I sincerely want to express my gratitude and support to the medical professionals who continue to work so hard, as well as the children undergoing treatment and their families,” she said.

The hospital said it would put the donation to meaningful use by helping families struggling with the financial burden of medical treatment and supporting children who travel from across the country in search of care.

“We will use this generous donation to help families struggling with the cost of treatment, so that children who come to our hospital from all over the country with hope can focus on their recovery in a safe and comfortable environment,” the hospital said.

Kim Ji-won to Play a Brilliant Surgeon in “Doctor X”

Meanwhile, Kim Ji-won has wrapped filming for “Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia” (닥터X: 하얀 마피아의 시대), SBS’s upcoming medical noir drama. The series is scheduled to premiere in October 2026.

Kim Ji-won stars as Gye Su-jeong, a brilliant surgeon known as the “mad dog of the operating room.” She is a fiercely skilled doctor who refuses to bow to a medical system dominated by corruption, power struggles, and bureaucracy.

The drama follows Gye Su-jeong as she takes on the corrupt power structure within a major university hospital, using her exceptional surgical skills to challenge those who put power and personal interests above medicine.

“Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia” is scheduled to premiere on SBS on October 9, 2026.
