While audience reactions have been mixed, with viewers divided between praise and criticism, the drama has generated strong momentum since its premiere.
According to Yunhe Data, Mystic Nine 2026 recorded a 14.3% effective playback market share on its opening day, making it the highest-performing Chinese drama currently airing.
The success of Mystic Nine 2026 also boosted interest in its predecessor, The Mystic Nine, which originally premiered in 2016. Riding the wave of renewed attention, the earlier series returned to the cross-platform long-form drama rankings, climbing to No. 29.
Meanwhile, several competing dramas saw their market share decline following the arrival of Mystic Nine 2026.
Overdo (θΏδΈη§θΏη«), starring Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan, slipped to second place after dominating the rankings for an extended period. Its effective playback market share has declined for three consecutive days, falling from a peak of 18.9% to 18.2%, then 16.8%, and most recently 14.2%.
In third place, Wind-Born Warriors (ε ΅θͺι£δΈζ₯), starring Oho Ou, also experienced a decline, with its market share dropping from 15% to 13.5%.
Meanwhile, Royal Betrothal (εΎ‘ε»·θ°£), starring Wu Jinyan and Chen Zheyuan, posted a slight decline as well. Its market share slipped from 8.1% to 7.6%, though it remains among the strongest-performing Chinese dramas currently on air.
