LayarHijau – The wuxia drama Zhan Zhao Adventures (雨霖铃), starring Yang Yang, Zhang Ruonan, and Fang Yilun, has officially reached its finale on Disney+. The series wrapped up its run on a high note, spending two consecutive weeks among Disney+’s top three titles while surpassing 600 million views across platforms.
The finale’s biggest highlight was Zhan Zhao’s climactic battle against Prince Xiangyang at Chongxiao Tower. Dressed in a striking red official robe, Yang Yang’s character charged into the enemy stronghold for a life-or-death showdown. Despite suffering severe injuries, Zhan Zhao refused to give up. The image of him standing in the snow, covered in blood and leaning on his sword, quickly became one of the most talked-about moments among viewers.

Reflecting on the emotional sequence, Yang Yang revealed that the scene was filmed near the end of production. He admitted that he had grown deeply attached to Zhan Zhao and only felt a sense of relief after the character finally defeated his greatest enemy.
“I really loved that red costume. Red represents authority and righteousness. While filming, it felt like I was accompanying Zhan Zhao through the final stage of his journey,” Yang Yang said.
According to the actor, Zhan Zhao is someone who keeps his emotions to himself and faces hardships alone. He believes the character can best be described as someone defined by quiet courage.
“Rather than creating a perfect hero, I’d rather portray Zhan Zhao as a 99-point swordsman. The missing one point represents the most genuine part of his humanity,” he explained.
Throughout the series, Zhan Zhao was far from an untouchable hero. He endured countless injuries, survived repeated attacks from enemies, and faced numerous moments of emotional vulnerability. Yang Yang even joked that the costume team nearly ran out of fake blood because of how many battle scenes he filmed.
“Every day, people were putting all kinds of fake blood on Zhan Zhao. At one point, the costume department almost ran out,” he said with a laugh.
Yang Yang also shared that he and Zhan Zhao have a strong sense of justice in common. However, he admitted that he is not nearly as patient as the character.
“There is one thing I absolutely can’t tolerate, and that’s being hungry. How can you work if you’re not full?” he joked.
The intense action scenes even followed him into his sleep.
“I often dreamed about fighting, riding horses, being chased by enemies, or rushing to save someone. I’d wake up and go straight to filming, then have the same dreams again when I went back to sleep,” he recalled.
It wasn’t until filming wrapped that he realized his wuxia journey with Zhan Zhao had finally come to an end.
Meanwhile, Fang Yilun, who played Bai Yutang, also became a major talking point in the finale. As Zhan Zhao’s closest ally, Bai Yutang joined him in storming Chongxiao Tower for the final battle. However, an unexpected trap left his life hanging in the balance, bringing many viewers to tears.
In a separate interview, Fang Yilun praised Yang Yang’s portrayal of Zhan Zhao.
“First of all, he’s handsome. Beyond that, his action scenes are incredibly well-coordinated. His movements are powerful and very impressive,” Fang said.
He also revealed that Yang Yang’s real-life personality shares similarities with the character he portrayed.
“He’s very thoughtful. He pays attention to small details and quietly helps people without ever talking about it,” Fang Yilun said.
Although Zhan Zhao Adventures did not fully meet expectations in terms of critical reception, reports indicate that its 200 million yuan production budget was successfully recovered through advertising revenue and sponsorships during its broadcast run.
Disney+ also released an additional epilogue scene with the finale. In the extra footage, Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang return to the capital to meet the emperor after the final battle. Despite their injuries, the two continue their signature playful bickering, delighting fans of the beloved “Cat and Mouse” duo.
The drama’s closing moments proved especially intriguing, as Zhan Zhao accepted a new mission to travel to Western Xia. The open-ended conclusion immediately sparked speculation among viewers about the possibility of a second season. While no official announcement has been made, many fans are already calling for the story to continue.
