Shadow Punisher Plot Breakdown
Set in the fictional Dashi Dynasty during the 37th year of the Hongyun era, the story follows Li Si (played by Luo Yunxi). On the surface, he is “Master Qingyang,” an easygoing noble who spends his days sipping tea and browsing art galleries. In reality, he is Zhou Yan, the Fourth Prince who faked his death during a violent court betrayal.
Determined to expose the conspiracy behind his assassination attempt and solve cold cases from the past, Li Si infiltrates the Royal Bureau of Investigators under his disguise. Along the way, he forms an investigative trio alongside two key allies:
Bai Zhenzhu (played by Shen Yujie): The realm’s top female forensic examiner, known by her investigator title “Frost Catcher”.
Meng Rui (played by Fang Yilun): The “Ghost Catcher,” a fierce investigator driven by a dark personal vendetta.
Together, the trio tackles a web of bizarre cases involving ancient esoteric arts (Qimen Dunjia) and underlying political power struggles. The 30-episode adaptation centers on six major cases (condensed from eight in the original novel), including the “Qionglou Immortal Corpse Case” and the “Tianmora Man-Eating Plant Case”.
