The first season of Sword Snow Stride left three major unresolved storylines: the truth behind the death of Xu Fengnian’s (played by Zhang Ruoyun) mother, how Xu Fengnian would inherit the Beiliang territory amid external threats, and the development of his relationship with the fallen princess Jiang Ni (Li Gengxi). Zhang Ruoyun initially faced criticism for his portrayal of Xu Fengnian, but his performance eventually won over audiences, making the character one of his most iconic roles after Joy of Life (庆余年). Meanwhile, Li Gengxi’s portrayal of Jiang Ni continued to receive mixed reviews regarding both her acting and appearance.
The potential cast change has sparked divided opinions. Luo Yunxi has been gaining attention for his performance in Whispers of Fate, while Song Zu’er recently revived her career with the hit dramas The Prisoner of Beauty and The Demon Hunter’s Romance (无忧渡). Earlier reports suggested Chen Yao from Whispers of Fate would take over the main female role, but she is now reportedly set to play a supporting character, Qing Niao, previously portrayed by Ding Xiaoying (The Journey of Legend / 赴山海). Fans continue to support Chen Yao in her new role.
